ARC Ref 5se inferior to LS28? IMHO what else would he say? Unless he has a Ref 5SE you can compare and he gets a sale one way or the other. Doesn't make him bad just a good businessman. . If it is untrue, it makes him a liar. Which makes me wonder what else is he lying...
Wife trouble If your wife is unhappy, you will be unhappy. And if your wife is unhappy long enough, you'll be unhappy with half your stuff..
CD Copy Nero Get Exact Audio Copy, it is free. If you use EAC then you will have a bit perfect copy. Use a good quality (made in Japan) blank. The sound should be as good as the original.
Audio Research 610T I would bring the amp to you local ARC dealer. Even if you did not buy the amps from him he is still your dealer. He probably has resistors and other small parts on hand. He may fix the problem for free just to show some good will. Hoping you wil...
Audio Research 610T Usually a blown resistor is caused by a bad tube. I would also check the tubes. Your ARC dealer probably has spare resistor on hand.
Qs about Bias You do not disconnect anything. You just have no music playing for a few minutes. I put my preamp in mute. The amp needs to be warm to bias the tubes. I normally bias my tubes after listening. The amp should be on for at least 15 minutes. You als...
Repair resource for Audio Reseaerch Ref 150 amp Send it home to ARC. 213cobra is right, ARC makes minor changes as they go. They will sometimes incorporate these updates in your piece while it is being repaired. They did with my Ref 5se that was under warranty. They will also make sure that it...
Output tubes for ARC Ref 110 Yes, bias them the same at 65ma. The KT 120s should last much longer than 6550s. I have heard around 4000 in the Ref 110.
Best powercables for Martin Logan 15A speakers I had SL3s for a number of years. I could never hear a difference between power cords. I did have a problem with the large heavy power cords slowly coming loose. In the end I just used the original cords. If I still had my SL3s today, I might try ...
Pre-amp upgrade time? Sounds like a used ARC Ref 3 preamp would seem to be a natural fit for your ARC amp, and the sound you are describing that you seek. I totally agree. An ARC Ref preamp would be an excellent match. I own both a Ref 110 and Ref 5se, just superb...
Should I consider the newer Audio Research pre & power amps, when I play records not CD's Congratulations! I think you will find the combination just superb.
Should I consider the newer Audio Research pre & power amps, when I play records not CD's I hope you get the Ref 5se. You will feel no need to upgrade for a very long time. It is truly world class. While the speakers are the voice of your system, the preamp is the heart. It has more of an effect on the sound than the amp. With an MC c...
interconnects vs speaker cables vs power cords - which make the biggest difference? It really depends on the system. But in general, power cords and conditioners make the biggest difference. Then speaker cables and lastly interconnects. But again it depends on the system. I have found mixing brands of speaker cables and intercon...
Preamp popping! You should always turn the preamp on first and then the amp. You should turn them off in the reverse order. I leave my preamp on mute until everything including sources are turned on.
RCA or XLR iInput Shorting Plugs or Pins The caps are cheap and keep dust out of the RCA inputs. Seems like a good idea. It is as simple as that. |
