Do any Audio Research tube amps run in class A? I also believe that all Audio Research tube amps are A/B. It would increase the number of tubes significantly to be class A at the same power output. I went from a VT100 mk3 to a Ref 110 and it was a big jump. I always felt that my VT100 lacked p...
T+A Amps and Preamps? I have heard T+A gear at my dealer and thought it very good. I like the pass and Simaudio Moon better for amplifiers. I really liked the Moon 400m mono amps. I never compared the Pass XA60.8 directly. But I think the Pass is slightly better. T...
USB Cable: Oyaide, Cardas, Shunyata.... I use a Shunyata Venom in my system and it is very good. I think the Wireworld is better but more money. I also thought about one of the higher end Audioquest. But in the end I think that the Shunyata is probably the best for anywhere near the mo...
Low Biasing on an ARC Ref75 It is best to use an anti static plastic screwdriver ( I think they are actually called trim tools). You do not wan't to use anything metal in case it slips.
Low Biasing on an ARC Ref75 I would not run the bias that low. Normally I set the bias on my Ref 110 around 63ma. I am not sure if my Ref 110 even came with a bias tool. My Classic 60 came with a red one which I still use. The bias tool is nothing more than a plastic screwd...
South Florida - join in and make a REAL effort! Thanks, I will definitely check Eric's shop out. I own Sonus Faber Elipsa SE speakers. It will be nice to see everything he has. We will be heading back to Tampa later this month.
South Florida - join in and make a REAL effort! I have been watching this thread with interest, living just outside of Chicago and having it seems just inherited a house in Tampa. I am curious of Audio stores around south Florida. I also use to frequent Audio Consultants in Evanston back in t...
What are the more subtle sounding tube preamps? The Audio Research Ref 5se is a real bargain for what it sells for used. Still one of the best sounding preamps available today.
What are the more subtle sounding tube preamps? Having owned ARC gear for almost 30 years now I have to agree with randy-11. Older ARC gear was more lush and tubey sounding. Closer to the Conrad Johnson type sound. Modern ARC is far more detailed and holographic with less tube warmth. Some pie...
2017 Honest Cabling that doesn’t promote bankruptcy Cables are system dependent. You need to find out which brands work well with your speakers and components. There is no single best cable.
Need advice about upgrading speakers ( it might be the last one i own). The way to tell the SE version from the regular Elipsa speakers at a glance is the finish. The SE version has a high gloss finish were the original Elipsa had more of a mat type finish. There is a pair listed here as just Elipsa but they are the ...
Upgrade Quandary: Ref 75SE vs Ref 150 (non SE) I totally agree with gpgr4blu. You could always the Ref 150 upgraded by ARC to the SE version later if you felt the need. The difference between the Ref 3 and Ref 5 is not that big. The difference between the Ref 5 and Ref 5se is much bigger. The ...
Need advice about upgrading speakers ( it might be the last one i own). Have you considered Sonus Faber, maybe a used pair of Cremona M or the Olympica 2 or 3? I own the Elipsa SE and they are extremely musical speakers with very tight well defined base. They have that "in the room" quality in spades. I remember read...
Upgrade Quandary: Ref 75SE vs Ref 150 (non SE) If it were me I would go for the extra power of the Ref 150. You can always upgrade it to an SE some time in the future if you want. I am not sure how efficient the Sashas are but the extra power should give you a bit more control. My Sonus Fab...
Upgrade option from an Audio Research PH3? Glad you like your new LS25 mk2. It really is a wonderful preamp. One of ARC's really ground breaking designs. It still holds it's own quite well against newer preamps. Tell us about the rest of your system including power cords and cables. What ... |
