Audio Research LS 25 MkII compared to actual AR production ? I had an LS25 mk2 for many years and finally upgraded to a Ref 5se. This was a huge jump and improved on every aspect of the LS25 mk2 in a big way. I have tried a lot of ARC preamps over the years but the Ref 5se convinced me I needed to upgrade....
Used Audio Research Preamp Options You are comparing an NAD C165BEE to no preamp. Go borrow an Audio research preamp from the dealer for the weekend. Then do the same test. That will give you a much better idea of what a top flight preamp will do for your system. I doubt it will b...
Used Audio Research Preamp Options You can search multiple sites using hifishark.com There is an LS25 mk2 for sale on the AudioCircle Marketplace for $2500. There is a Ref 2 mk2 here on Audiogon for $3,250.00 Both prices are probably somewhat negotiable.
Used Audio Research Preamp Options I have also never heard an LS5 in my system. But I believe it is all balanced. ARC sold a converter to use with it called a BL1. It convert single ended into balanced.. The LS models are line stages where the SP models have built in phono stages....
Used Audio Research Preamp Options I have to agree with statman. I have also owned a lot of Audio Research preamps over the last 25 years or so. If I only had $2500 to spend on a preamp, it would be an LS25 mk2. I owned one for years until I bought my Ref 5se. It is a killer pream...
Protecting AMP and Cleaning AC Power I live in the Chicago area and we have a lot of summer storms as well. I still plug my Audio Research Ref 110 straight into the wall. I would not have my amp turned on during a storm. Power strips can have a negative effect on the sound.. Ther...
Protecting AMP and Cleaning AC Power I use a Furman Elite 15 PFI for my front end components. I have my tube amp plugged straight into the wall. The Furman can be power limiting. There are some power conditioners though designed especially for amps. I personally have not tried any of...
Used CM8 or 20 yrs old mint 804 Matrix? Are there any updates that can be done to the B&W Matrix 804s? Are the surrounds in good condition, the crossovers? I would to have them completely checked out,
Looking for my first tube amplifier, help appreciated. Used Mesa/Boogie Baron.
Most compatible speaker/interconnect and power cables with ARC ref system? I also have Sonus Faber Elipsa SE speakers. I am driving them with an Audio Research Ref 110 amp and Ref 5se preamp. So I have a vague idea of what your system sounds like.I use Shunyata cables in my system. I have also tried Sain cables in m...
A little help on choosing amps ARC and Pass are a very good match. I have heard a Pass 60.8 amps with an Audio Research Ref 5 many times. The Pass 60.8 are one of the best sounding solid state amps I have heard. I am sure the Pass X150.8 would sound very similar.
Tweaks for a new ARC preamp? I owned an LS2 mk2 for a long time, upgraded to an LS25 mk2. This was a HUGE step up. ARC preamps have come a long way in the last 20 years. I found a deal on a demo LS 27 a couple years ago. I had planned to upgrade, but after having the LS 27 in...
ARC Ref 210...tube virgin I have a very similar system. Audio Research Ref 5se, Ref 110 and Sonus Faber Elipsa SE speakers. The Elipsa SEs don't need the extra power of the Ref 210s. i would opt for a Ref 150. Especially for a tube newbie. My Ref 110 has no problem drivin...
Pass Labs vs ARC The Ref 5se is a line stage while the Pass XP25 is a phono stage. A better comparison would probably be to the ARC Ref Phono 2se. |
