Where is the significant point of diminishing returns on hi-end turntable?
The Clearaudio innovation wood is a fine table. you don't mention the arm. I have the universal arm on mine with a Benz Zebra Wood cartridge. But there are a lot of nice tables at that price point. I agree setup is very important. A well setup ...
Tube dampeners on ARC gear ... FREE TWEAK
The Furman Elite 15 PFI. The difference is huge. But then it should be. The Furman Elite 15 PFI retails for around $700. The Shunyata Triton retailed for $5000. I will also say that the Shunyata Triton has much better isolation and noise reductio...
Tube dampeners on ARC gear ... FREE TWEAK
I just got the 8 Herbie's tube dampers the other day. I put 4 on the signal tubes in my CD7 and 4 on the signal tubes in my Ref 5se. I put them all on at he same time. So far I do hear a difference between the Herbie's and the ARC ones. The sound...
Tube dampeners on ARC gear ... FREE TWEAK
Folkfreak, you use Herbie's tube dampers on both the 6H30 and 6550 tubes? I have them on the 6H30 signal tubes in my Ref 5se and Ref CD7. I thought about ordering some more for the 6H30 in each of the power supplies. I had not consider putting...
Sonus Faber Stradavaris in the New England area.
I second  Audioaficionado.org. There is a Sonus Faber area and a number of the people there own Stradavari speakers. The owner lives in the New England area. Good luck!.
Using tube amp with electrostatic speakers.
I had a pair of ML SL3s for years driven with an Audio Research V70 and then a Ref 110. Ideally you would want at least 100 wpc to drive the SL3s properly. I don't think the Cary Rocket 88R  would be powerful enough. The SL3s will tend to sound c...
Outer Platter Rings
I had a ClearAudio Ring. But after a while, I used the ring so little that I just got rid of it. It gets to be a pain if you use it often. The ring is large and heavy. You have to remove it and set it somewhere every time you change or turn over ...
Outer Platter Rings
Outer rings are nice when you have a record that is a little warped. I am sure this is probably very table dependent. But on my Clear Audio Innovation Wood, I prefer the sound without the outer ring. To my hear the ring deadens the sound a tiny bit.
Replacement Sonus Faber grille strings?
I have heard of people tightening the strings. As I understand it is not difficult but is time consuming. I have Sonus Faber Elipsa SE Red speakers and I don't use the string grills. Watch the strings on the grill as you play music, the strings n...
Best Sounding Computer Audio Player For PC
I have been doing a lot of reading about the Microrendu and I think it might be the way to go. But, I have an Audio Research DAC8 so I need to use a USB to SPDIF or AES converter. Supposedly the DAC 8 sounds best using AES or SPDIF instead of USB...
Best Sounding Computer Audio Player For PC
Spencer, microRendu looks very interesting but would not work for me. My NAS is not in the same room (or floor) as my stereo. Also it does not say what DACs it supports. My DAC uses a special USB driver so I am guessing it wouldn’t work.dbtom2, I...

I have a Synology 415+ NAS that I use to store music and video.
Audioquest Niagara vs PS Audio
I just upgraded from a Furman Elite 15 PFI to a  Shunyata Triton. The difference is huge!  The Shunyata seems to focus the sound of my system more closely. The soundstage is bigger and each instrument is  more clearly defined. I have not heard t...
Music Server format?
Use Exact Audio copy to rip your CDs to individual tracks. Each song will be a track. EAC is free and will make a bit perfect rip. Verify your rip with the Accurip database to make sure it is error free. Rip your CDs to either wav or Flac. I pref...
Tinnitus remedy?
It is not so much a hobby as an obsession. But it dovetails nicely with my audio obsession. I use the time while the tubes warm up to make coffee.
