Best steak to eat while listening to your rig? as a dedicated carnivore from the epicenter of beef, i'll opine that costco has the best quality (and usually best priced) meat. even their lower-end cuts (skirt, round, etc.) are great; i think it's better than the much pricier whole foods and hi...
S/Pdif vs. Toslink grimace, i foolishly thought the v-link was a dac, not just a usb to spdif converter. i'm sure you've made a substantial upgrade--enjoy.
S/Pdif vs. Toslink i've never been able to hear a huge sonic difference between the two, so i always prefer coax because it's a tighter physical connection--optical cables occiasionally dislodge.btw, why did you get the v-link nasmuch as your cdp has a very good ext...
Art Blakey, king of the drums. i recently heard johnny griffin "blowin session" w/ blakey and coltrance and i was thinking it had the best drumming i've ever heard anywhere--i've never heard anyone who drives a piece like he does.
reliable changer mechanism needed remo, if you're up for dropping the $$$ the rotel and the arcam mcd (which i recently sold) are probably the best changers extant---to my ears they sound about as good as their makers' well-regarded single disc players. the older rotel 955 is also...
reliable changer mechanism needed i've had the same experience with my many denon changers--they sound good but build quality is extremely shoddy. i'd recommend integra--quiet, reliable and extremely cheap on ebay.
Are the CD'S days numbered? vinyl may be growing a bit, but it's still a tiny segment of the market--2.8m total units sold in 2010 vs. 325m cds. downloads will outsell cds for the first time in 2011. most telling stat, however, is that total 2010 music sales (downloads, cds,...
SF Concertino vs Dynaudio Focus 140 vs VA Haydn i just auditioned the focus and was very impressed--wide soundstage, great balance and tight, deep bass--no sub needed. its sensitivity is listed at 86db, so it will need some power (i heard with a monstrous 400w/ch ss audio research amp). not bor...
Power On First/Off Last Device? i received my adcom ace, hooked it up, and as wolf et. al, have stated, it works perfectly--i can wholeheartedly recommend it, or similar conditioner/sequencer. now if i can only find a device that (unlike wife + kids) puts the cds back in their j...
Anyone refinished a plinth? you can also get some paper-backed veneer (parts express sells it), cut it to size and press it on--if your woodworking skills match mine, it'll save you some heartache. i've recovered speakers with it and it can look really good.
Chicks With Guitars richard stacy's got impeccable taste, so i'm gonna check out his whole list+ suggest a few of my own:edith frostkaki kingaimee mannjolie holland

Terrible/Inappopriate songs ... for some reason, i never liked "going mobile" on the otherwise perfect "who's next". the sappy "thorn tree in the garden" doesn't fit on "layla" and depending on my mood "after hours" tarnishes the first velvet underground album. the classic examp...
Power On First/Off Last Device? thanks gbart. i did already order an adcom ace and will report results when i get it.
Pioneer SX-1050: worth repairing? i like this pioneer series alot, but i'd be hesitant to drop $350 on a repair. repairs of 70s receivers is always kinda iffy--i've had some bad luck w/channel imbalances--and working units seem to go for around $400-450 on ebay (the less powerful,... |
