Denon 3806 + B&W 803D....amp suggestions???
i respectfully disagree with elevick--most avr power ratings (nad and hk excepted) are grossly overstated smoke and mirrors--quality of powewr aside, the inboard amps in your denon just don't have the oomph. as stated, i've had good results mating...
Denon 3806 + B&W 803D....amp suggestions???
jutjut:coincidentally, i've long been unhappy with the denon 3300 powering my naim arriva floorstanders in my br system. i just augmented the denon with a 150w/ch parasound amp (utilizing the pre outs on the denon) and the difference is night and ...
An honest opinion about upgrading?
well, your speakers are outstanding; i haven't heard the ayon but it appears to be universally praised. my upgrade path would, as you suggest, start with more power--although the s8s aren't especially inefficient, i would think they'll sound riche...
NAD c725bee receiver and PSB Imagine T Towers
nad's power ratings are always conservative--they have plenty of dynamic headroom. the nad will be a good match for your psbs.
Smallest speakers that ROCK
von schweikert vr1--mucho slam for the sizeacoustic energy ae or evo series--impact like full range floorstandersqm guru--perhaps the ultimate small r&r speaker
Best floorstanding speakers less than $500
the canton gles are surprisingly good full range floorstanders--fo to accessories4less. older energ--audissey or c series--are also good at your price point.
Budget DVD Player Recommendation
roryfan:right here on agon there are three 2910s listed, including a new one for 250. i also see two on ebay. i'm sure you'll have no trouble snagging one at your price point--just make an offer.
Best Paradigm or other Sub to go with my setup?
the jbl northridge is entry level stuff which will not be up the quality of the subs above mentioned. you can get much better for less. theater research sounds like a "white van" product and, if such, is worthless.
Budget DVD Player Recommendation
within your budget, i'm a fan of the denon (2910 or 3910) for 2ch. audio--very good inboard dacs. cambridge audio dv is another good choice--i notice they're being blown out for less than $200 new. i have not heard the oppo.
upgrade from Paradigm S1's to S2's V2 series???
the s1s are outstanding speakers--i'm not sure what you hope to gain by upgrading to the s2s, which are essentially the same drivers/design.--granted the s2s may extend deeper, but you have an excellent sub, so that shouldn't be a consideration. o...
Best 5.1 ONLY receiver every made?
shinytoys:to each his own, i guess. actually, my denons are fine for movies and tv. for music, though, they lack oomph and transparency. my late, lamented b&k avr-202 was eons better, albeit lacking all the (mostly unnecesaary) bells and whist...
Best 5.1 ONLY receiver every made?
i currently have a couple of high-end denon avrs (4803 and 3300). i hate 'em both--wimpy and "digital" sounding. in general, b&k and arcam were the best of the 5.1 breed--several notches above the mass market asian branded gear.
Budget minded bookshelves
i noticed someone (not me) on agon selling some mordaunt short ms30i for 150 or so. a no brainer at that price--very fine speaker from hugely underrecognized company.
To mod or not to mod, dac is the question
Personally, I've never quite understood the virtues of modding a budget piece of gear. sorta like those guys who take a honda civic and put 100k of aftermarket crap on it--at core it's still a honda civic and they could have bought a ferrari for t...
Budget Amp with Optical DAC
another to consider if you're looking for more power would be a b&k avr-202 (an older 5.1 receiver), which i'm seeing used for 300-400. lots of power, fantstic build quality, great for music. best learning remote i've ever used. i foolishly so...
