Passive sub for Magnepan 3.6r?
ultimately, i decided to pass on the maggies and stick with my revel f32s. notwithstanding the maggies' fantastic qualities, my ears still demanded a sub, and i just couldn't deal with the psychic and financial investment in upgrading power amps, ...
has anyone tried PS Audio perfect wave duo
silly question, perhaps, but isn't there latency when you first put in a disc--i.e. a delay before playing while the pw reads and recodes it?
JMLab Cobalt 810s, match w/JMLab 800 center?
the virtually-uniform consensus is you should match your fronts and center as close as possible in order to make surround as seamless as possilbe. matching rears are somewhat less critical, but still ideally should be from the same line. in your c...
Speakers for Rock Music
look at von schweikert vr2 or meadowlark kestrel--lots of thwack; usually around a grand used. psb golds are also a good rec.
Focal vs Dali speakers
as i should have indicated before, i'd actually opt for the focal cobalt (now discontinued, but widely available used for cheap) or electra, which have more seamless driver integration than the chorus.
Focal vs Dali speakers
neither the focals or the dali are notable for their low end--if you want a full range speaker you'll need a sub, or else look at other models. that said, i'm a big fan of the focals, which are incredibly transparent and sound good with modest amp...
Just got a pair of Polk Audio LSi15s Need advice
the outlaw rr2150 receiver is a cool looking piece with an inboard usb hookup for your computer, 100w/ch and good reviews. for around $600, it's the route i'd go.
Help Starting from scratch
to my ears, the paradigms are tons better than the polk and b&w you listed--fuller and much more transparent, with a broad soundstage.
Would an SACD Player improve my sound?
since you have an excellent cdp, and your sacd use is incidental, i might try buying a very inexpensive universal player (e.g. a used denon, integra or pioneer elite) for your sacd. esp. when connected to the thor, any of these should do you nicel...
Is KEF no longer relevant?
i tend to agree with the OP--kef was a once revered brand that seems to have lost its panache. perhaps their made-in-china model isn't serving them well. i haven't heard its current ultra-reference stuff, but i have auditioned its xq and q series ...
Information on Emotiva
i can only opine as to, and heartily endorse, their power amps, but emotiva registers as a really solid company with vg customer service. i really like their business model--make it in china, sell it direct w/o the inflated middleman, and build a ...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
humble pie: performance/rockin the fillmore--it's been sitting on my stack for about a 100 years before i actually deigned to put it on. surprisingly, it's pretty great--the pre-megastardom peter frampton was a pretty good guitarist who eschewed a...
Speaker suggestions
i tend to agree with paulsax--you can do better for less with other candidates. if you liked the maggy sound, i'd consider vmps, which are fuller range and much easier to drive. for a dynamic speaker you cannot go wrong with revel, paradigm signat...
Does anyone have any experience with Emotiva ?
i've only heard emotiva's power amps, which are extremely good for their price--i can't speak to the emotiva cdp. however, from my dealings, emotiva registers as a fine, smart company with excellent customer service--i believe they offer a 30 day ...
DVD as transport
i see a bunch of pioneer elite dv-45 and dv-47 units listed here for as little as $50. they have nice, well-made drawer mechanisms, read discs quickly and should do you nicely.
