Subwoofer insight.
Am I the only one that thinks this system is underpowered?  86dB 1w/1M on a 75W tube amp in a big space does not sound correct to me; I'd pick a good 200W/ch amp and see how that does.  I may agree with some of the sub comments, but you don't even...
ATC SCM v3 - First impressions.......
He certainly is fixated on cabinet shape!   Brad
ATC SCM v3 - First impressions.......
Is weight the only issue in my entire post ?    Brad
ATC SCM v3 - First impressions.......
Kenjit, A few corrections for you:1) the ATC 20 Classic is 27kg, not 18.   ( The ATC SCM 19 is 18 kg).  2) ATC is known for its terrific midrange, not weak midrange3) very few of ATC's models are sealed, but we do shoot for the ideal 12dB per octa...
ATC SCM v3 - First impressions.......
smodtacticalIs there any concern that the ATC speakers are quite light and thus more susceptible to distortion ? I think their flagship speaker is like 31 kg.Where did this "flagship is 31kg" info come from?   From what I can see, their SE150 (the...
Any reason not to place stand mounted speakers upside down?
Id say close to zero [conventional 2way/3 way] speakers designed to be vertical can work properly sideways (rotated 90 degrees or horizontal).  The reverse is also true, very few designed to work horizontal can work vertical.  You must be aware of...
Any reason not to place stand mounted speakers upside down?
I think teo audio mentions the important point.  The pattern of vertical dispersion is generally something like a wide fan, with a 90 degree width and a 10 or 15 degree height.  The fan is aimed slightly downward from the tweeter.  Imagine a cross...
Active or passive?
Actually one of the benefits of active is it makes all the gear in front of it much easier to hear.  I have never heard as much difference in cables, preamps, DAC's, turntables as with actives.  With Passives the finer details of different preamps...
What creates the effortlessness in sound reproduction?
Phusis- just read your post- right on, we are on the same page.  Danley for sure- he is a very talented designer who seems to be ahead of many, great sounding horns!  His stuff sounds so good.  (I've known him since Servo Drive days)  You mention ...
What creates the effortlessness in sound reproduction?
GeoffKait has it right.  Its not about drivers, efficiency, box type, ported/not, amp type- it's about the ability of all the system elements (from source to speaker) to cover the dynamic range of the source and at the level you want it to play an...
Active or passive?
Honestly I have not tried a direct AB with passive and active of another brand the same model using the same amps right next to each other. The leaders in active from the pro side are ATC and Genelec, both jumped into active back in the early 80s ...
Active or passive?
Ive done this demo (passive vs active) many times.  Active properly executed will outperform passive.   The reasons are many: 1) losses through all those copper coils in the passive crossover 2) losses of power, dampening factor, etc though all th...
Klipsch!. The worst speaker company, EVER?
IF one can divorce oneself from opinion, the Klipsch originals attempted to solve one of the pillars of reproduction: dynamic range.  At the time, there were very few large power amplifiers.  Paul used walls and proper engineering to get inexpensi...
Review ATC SCM 40 A floorstanders.....finally
mktmkt:Sonically yes, they are the same but the finish is a lot more than stain.  We use the same veneer house as Bentley and Maserati.  Consumer dealers service and support is WAY different than pro.  Pro dealers serve studio customers that are 1...
Review ATC SCM 40 A floorstanders.....finally
Actually phantom_av, that is not current information.  Hans has Quested in his personal studio but all his work is mixed and produced on ATC and has been for 10 years?   His mix engineer Alan Meyerson (handling I believe all Remote Controls's pro ...
