Your thoughts on active loudspeakers
Fiesta 75It makes so much sense to take all that wire and inductors out of the signal flow to the speakers.  With so much focus on speaker cables, I wonder how many people realize how much wire is part of a large air core inductor used for LF cros...
Your thoughts on active loudspeakers
The first significant players in active were Genelec and ATC. ATC is about 50/50 pro and consumer and Genelec historically was focused on pro. In consumer Linn and Meridian did some good work. In pro, additional players got involved as the busines...
Subwoofer Footing - Connect or Isolate?
I have.  Huge difference in the system I heard it on (the one in the video posted earlier).  Amazing what it sounds like isolated from the floor and room structure.  This was build by an acoustics expert whos quite popular in the US and builds the...
Subwoofer Footing - Connect or Isolate?
Wow a lot of bad info here.  Isolating things that move is important when you don't want to excite other elements of the listening room that add to and change the total sound you perceive.  This is an issue of mass vs frequency. The total sound you...
Do active speakers have high THD amplifiers?
here here celtic66. I’m with you. Fiesta 75 -you get it! (Audiogoners, follow these guys! ) Who honestly thinks a speaker level crossover is an improvement over a line level one? How is seen as a good thing to add a bunch of big lossy parts that a...
Low-sensitivity speakers — What's special about them?
When designing a driver, its a choice you make: efficiency or bandwidth.  This choice doesn't change if the driver will be used in a horn or infinite baffle,
Good quality wireless, active speakers ??
The secret to Sonos is using wifi for transmission, not bluetooth (which is mostly short range line of sight). There are not many credible wi fi music systems used out there beyond Sonos (Yamaha Musicast?). Sonos is improving and pursuing higher d...
Types of speakers to create nightclub style sound?
Listen to davidbrinknyc- he's the one with the right idea.  Funktion One dominates the club business worldwide and QSC is a quality company building good sounding alternatives for less money.
Should I switch to a larger room?
Larger rooms are almost always better unless something very unique is wrong with the large room.  Why are they usually better?  Boundaries are further away! Brad
How bad is it to place 5.1 rears from behind rather than on the sides?
You are so close to a nice 7.1 set up with all 7 speakers on stands. All you need do is pull the couch forward and little, enough for speakers to be as they are in in your first figure, behind you. a bit wider than your L/R pair. 5.1 to 7.1 is add...
Best midranges...
The ATC mid dome is a very unique and high performance part. With a motor larger than 99% of midrange drivers, a dual suspension for linear behavior even at higher levels, short coil long gap for low distortion, sealed so enclosures volumes don’t ...
ATC and Loki
I wont deny that it could be proper gain staging that affects the signal chain in some set ups.
ATC and Loki
Outside of Fletcher Munson, there is no reason a system should so different within its power bandwidth. I think a lot of the impressions one gets of a system sounding different with level is really related to distortion, power compression or misma...
Thoughts on Active/Passive Speakers? Looking for pros and cons.
PragmasI actually misread your post. I thought you said a passive crossover works at low voltage, and the rest was in support of that. My mistake and I apologize. Brad.
Thoughts on Active/Passive Speakers? Looking for pros and cons.
pragmas: signal processing at speaker level is a WHOLE different animal than at line level. Heat is the lowest issue compared to the rest of the losses and lack of phase control. Have you seen a proper passive crossover, how much copper is involve...
