Any reviews of Sound Sellers of Marinette WI?
I've known Sound Seller a long time.  1980s!  He's an independent who developed a nice niche in b stocks and discontinued.  He's a great guy, a good owner, honest, straightforward etc.   I buy stuff from him myself!BradLone Mountain Audio
Stereophile's 2021 products of the year
I have some direct experience to offer on this.  Absolute Sound, Stereophile (and several other online magazines) have reviewed and recommended our our ATC products without one dollar of advertising- ever.  While all of us want to make the link be...
Most rooms don’t need acoustical treatment.
There are two basic issues in rooms: absorption and reflection. Acoustics panels are usually absorbers sucking up sound, some are diffusers (add more reflections).  Most home listening acoustic problems are related to too many similar reflections ...
Single driver speakers. Are they worth considering ?
I have not read it in this thread but the biggest advantage of a single driver is linear phase.  It can make what response you do have sound very good and be error free (if the driver is good).  Manger has explored this design idea extensively.  I...
Smaller vs larger listening rooms?
I go into a lot of different rooms for demos as the ATC importer. Every small room (including studios) have problems because they are too small. Small rooms do not have enough length or width to allow a true deep bass wavelength to exist in the ro...
Who remembers the Dahlquist DQ-10's?
I used to sell them in store in Milwaukee (the 70s) then became the Dahlquist rep! So I knew Jon and he was a character! I remember in the 70s there where people STACKING DQ10s- crazy. Yes, you guys are right, DCM Time Windows an the demo room, wi...
I Was Considering Active, Then I Watched This ...
Yes, but we did not do an active vs passive comparison.  I did that only at AXPONA.  Reading this thread makes me want to say it's all I will ever do.  I cannot believe there is this much misinformation about active.   Brad
I Was Considering Active, Then I Watched This ...
I decided today that if AXPONA happens this next fall as planned (Chicago), I’ll take a pair of ATC 50 SE’s and pair of 50 passives to compare in my exhibit room. All of you can come hear it yourself. Brad
I Was Considering Active, Then I Watched This ...
It’s a compromise to have active speakers and is technology mostly embraced by the professional audio sound people. They listen for frequencies, not tonal shadings or micro dynamics...certainly not for the differences in instrument voicing or spat...

I think you said it all there KingHarold: you put forth a LOT of effort to correct for issues you encountered.  A true engineering project!  Problems are inherent in every loudspeaker design and I think ATC and Genelec would 100% support you in yo...

That is not true in my experience.  I don't think whether its DSP or Analog would affect the outcome either, unless its a low quality (DAC or analog) design masking information.  I guess its certainly possible to hear no difference.  My preference...
I Was Considering Active, Then I Watched This ...
DJones51, its difficult to judge your posts when you say "front end components are not really much of a concern on a properly designed active".  Increase resolution at the speaker (via active technology) and resolution of the front end won't matte...
I Was Considering Active, Then I Watched This ...
djones51: An active speaker can be an all analog design or a digital input/DSP design and Class D amplifiers, but inputs and amps do NOT make it "active".  The critical issue is simply where the processing takes place, at speaker level [passive] o...
I Was Considering Active, Then I Watched This ...
Some ask for direct comparison of active vs passive of the same speaker and I have done this many times.  SCM 40 passive vs SCM 40A active, plus SCM 50 passive vs SCM50 Active.   In both cases using ATC P1 or P2 amps to drive the passive.  So this...
Tom Petty's Wildflowers in HiFi sounds spectacular on KEF LS50 Meta
I am particularly impressed with that mix, Ryan's a total pro and is completely dedicated to his craft.  He did tremendous work in gathering all those other tracks in the package that were never released. The family was involved and it was definte...
