Help all ye Triplanar Gurus
Tri is a very honorable man. You might fairly criticize the fact that he is tardy in this instance in responding to Sunnyboy's messages. But that does not equate to a lack of honor. Tri has sent me stuff prior to receiving payment, and he is alway...
Ortofon Per Windfeld Load Impedance?
Ralph's point about characteristic impedance is a very important one. IMO, it is another reason why some cables sound different from others and why cables that sound good in one system may sound awful in other systems. I have found for example in ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul et al, I am still waiting for you or someone to try one of the old Grado TLZ or XTE. I still have my TLZ, and I intend to give it a listen via an RS-A1 tonearm that I just bought. What I remember about it is that the TLZ was head and shoulder...
Ortofon Per Windfeld Load Impedance?
Here's what you can do, if you don't have a scope and a generator. Buy a Cardas test record and a digital multimeter. They are both good tools for any audiophile to have and can be bought for not much moola. The Cardas has a band that plays a 1kHz...
Ortofon Per Windfeld Load Impedance?
Audiofeil, In fairness, Zieman may have been thinking of cable capacitance, which does play a role in loading the cartridge but which is less of an issue with MC cartridges, as opposed to MMs. "Impedance" comes from both resistance and reactance, ...
Ortofon Per Windfeld Load Impedance?
Dear Taylor, Thanks for the info. I am sorry to learn that I will have to spend "all the money" to get what I want. Raul, have you heard these two? Zieman, do you agree with Taylor's characterization of the two cartridges? If this usurps the threa...
Ortofon Per Windfeld Load Impedance?
Zieman, Would you care to characterize the differences between the Per Windfield and the Jubilee? I've been thinking about one or the other myself. Thanks.
Lenco owners - arm/cart discussion,suggestions?
Scompracer, I used the very same Triplanar on my Hyperspace that I now use on my Nantais/Lenco. To mount the Triplanar on the H'space, I needed to have Tom Fletcher (Nottingham Analog boss and mentor) make me a special platform that raised the ton...
What is the difference between Lenco L-75 vs L- 76
Never heard of an L76. I believe there is an L78 that is similar to an L75. What you want to avoid is anything later than those (model numbers in the 80s), IF you want an idler drive table. The 80 series are belt-drives.
Lenco owners - arm/cart discussion,suggestions?
Mikey, I don't know why the Denon 103R would be a popular choice to use with a Lenco. It's much more important to match cartridge and tonearm. Once you've done that, you can use that pair on any turntable. Different tts will add different sonic si...
Lenco owners - arm/cart discussion,suggestions?
I've heard Dopogue's system several times, and I can back up all of what he says. I liked his sound so much that I invested in a Nantais Lenco too. I use a Triplanar with Koetsu Urushi on my L75, and I am very pleased with the result. The combo bl...
How would you rate the Well Tempered Reference Arm
Adjust damping by your ear. No one can tell you what will sound best. I mentioned that my friend's WTR table and arm always sound overdamped to me. This is probably because he just recently admitted to me that he has never played with the damping ...
Exchange Rate Positively Affecting Caliburn Price?
Sirspeedy, From an earlier post, I got the impression that you live in the Washington, DC, greater area. If you do, and if you want to come over and have a listen to your own LPs on my system sometime, while you await the repair of your system, yo...
Cartridges - what have you owned and your opinion
I've owned a great number of cartridges, but I will stick to 3 that I've owned over the last 10 years and have used in my current system. First was the Benz Glider. I don't recall which version I had. It was "nice" but rather mechanical sounding a...
advice for lenco turntable
I've used a Herbies type 2 mat and a Boston Audio Mat 1 on my Lenco. Can't decide yet which is best in my system. Herbie's is more mellow; BA gives a bit more detail. I think it's a matter of personal preference, so buy a couple of cheap ones and ...
