Someone that can recap/refurbish/recalibrate a direct drive turntable motor?
I think the TT81 differs from the TT101 in that the latter TT has external buttons to increase or decrease rotational speed in small, regular increments. The TT81 does not have that feature, so far as I know, but as you say there are likely to be ...
Manual Prop for TT cover
The other side of the coin is lowered dust cover reflects vibrations emanating from the cartridge back at the cartridge thus enhancing a resonance that interferes with transduction. Listen both ways and decide for yourself. But when you do that ex...
Manual Prop for TT cover
Yes, remove it from its hinges so you can then remove it completely when you actually play LPs.  You can put it back in place when the TT is not in use. I have never met a dust cover that did not detract from sonics if lowered during LP play.  Mos...
Lowest priced MC thats better than a Premium MM?
MI cartridges can be low output, like an LOMC in output V, or high output, sort of like a lowish output MM. Most or maybe all of the vintage MI cartridges can drive an MM stage with ease. So too can the Nagaoka MP500, SS The Voice in high output v...
Lowest priced MC thats better than a Premium MM?
I think the premise of your question, that there is a cheap MC superior to the best MM, is flawed, and it’s especially flawed if you include MI types. I’d stay away from HOMC entirely.

Although you may like the Zu Denon, keep in mind that it is unusual in having low compliance and a spherical stylus. Plus, the cartridge per se is on the heavy side and recommended VTF is on the high side. Spherical stylus has its own limitations ...
Moving Magnet Phono Cartridges
Those latter AT cartridges with comical styli are ideal for humor records.
Moving Magnet Phono Cartridges
I didn’t mention Nagaoka or the fact that Nags and Grados are MI, because I’ve done so previously, but yes by all means consider those MIs. Was listening to my MP500 last night. Great cartridge.
Moving Magnet Phono Cartridges
I always thought the Shure V15, in all its iterations, was ""nice" but underwhelming. Back in the day, I preferred ADC and Grado cartridges.  I think you can easily find an AT, Goldring, or Ortofon cartridge, or other brands like Grado, that are a...
Does a record player make that much of a difference??
I wish Nandric was around to give everyone struggling with the question a lesson in semantics.  There is no common vocabulary or an agreement on concepts that ties the disparate claims together.  Thus this thread can go on forever or ad nauseam, w...
Phono cable not caps to le with preamp?
A VERY loud hum is possibly due to a more major ground fault than the hum that typically results from failure to ground the TT or tonearm, in my experience. If the usual suspects don't work at all, I would look at either the cables (maybe the sold...

If you can select quotes, I can select quotes, too: "My daily driver is a JVC TT-81 in the dual tonearm JVC plinth, but lately it’s been pretty flaky, e.g. noticeable flutter, along with an occasional speed runaway and strobe not reporting correc...
Phono cable not caps to le with preamp?
Definitely.
Someone that can recap/refurbish/recalibrate a direct drive turntable motor?
Pindac, as I understand it, the OP has a TT81 with speed issues. He needs someone who is expert with the servo mechanisms of vintage Japanese DD turntables. In the USA, that person is JP Jones at Fidelis Analog. He doesn’t necessarily need a new b...

Fidelis Analog is the only game in town. If JP ( the proprietor) will agree to work on the TT81, go for it. There is no second best. By the way, the problem most likely resides in the servo mechanism, not in the motor.
