New phono stage arrived Congratulations. I never heard of either unit or the companies that make them. Perhaps others can benefit from your experience. What amplifiers and speakers? If the first phono was as bad as you say, chances are there was a cryptic defect. Did you...
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY? If you heard a Grado, chances are you’ve heard a MI cartridge.
Records not stored vertically for decades Where do you get your “rules of warping”?
Records not stored vertically for decades Always a good idea to clean your LPs, but I see no reason why horizontal storage would make the LPs any more or less in need of a cleaning. I disagree that even the bottom-most LPs in the pile would have had dirt driven into the grooves to any gr...
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY? So you have no extensive experience with MI cartridges. OK. Of all types with which I have experience, the HOMC is on the bottom. There are great things about LOMC, MI, and MM, but I have no love for HOMC when any of those other types are availabl...
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY? But Pindac, you did not mention MI (Moving Iron) types. Do you own one? Have you heard one in a familiar system? If you are a mere 60 years old, do not sell your ears short. Unless you have been exposed to very loud noises due to occupation or ro...
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY? How can fuzziness improve fidelity to the real? Furthermore any quality “imparted” by the cartridge is per se a distortion. Nevertheless, if you put a gun to my head, I’d say I prefer MI. I don’t say it too loudly because I’ve never heard a $10K+ ...
Phono preamp with multiple inputs?? Suggestions please!! Manley Steelhead
Records not stored vertically for decades But Raul’s pint is valid, especially since we are not sure we have the full story(conditions of storage being the most important). Why not play a few LPs from the bottom of the stack and a few off the top.? Then let us know your results.
Wonder Why No Japanese Retippers? Neon, you don’t realize how introverted the Japanese can be. If you live in Japan and own a cartridge that needs retipping, I’d guess it’s like finding alcohol during Prohibition. You have to know a guy.
Wonder Why No Japanese Retippers? I’m quite confident that there are retippers in japan who don’t speak English and do not want to be bothered with attracting non-Japanese speaking clientele. We travel to Tokyo every year to visit our son. We’re going again in late May. I’ll ask.
Wonder Why No Japanese Retippers? How do we know that there are not re-tippers in japan available for Japanese audiophiles? I would bet that there are such persons. The Pacific Ocean is a significant obstacle to their doing business in the United States.
What is the quality and performance level of Fluance turntables?? Plugging TT only into a receptacle isolated from the rest of a system is one way to create a ground loop, if there isn’t one already, but I agree if the hum (which we don’t yet know is actually hum) changes character, that would be revealing. Anyw...
What is the quality and performance level of Fluance turntables?? So a cheap Rega doesn’t do as cheap does? I would agree that Fluance and U Turn play in the same category, but they do provide good value for money. In any case there is a lot that could be done to show that the TT has anything to do with the hum...
Halcro - audiogon member Dover, thank you for relaying the sad news. Henry was a very nice guy and a true audiophile. He and I had several private conversations over the few years we cohabited this space. He’s already been missed, and we’ll continue to miss him. |
