Why According to some Turntable extremists Pitch Control and Direct Drive is Sacrilege?
Alex, SP 10 mk3 definitely does have a pitch control; it’s built into the outboard power supply.Fremer’s “hunting” hypothesis is the favorite criticism of DD by those who prefer belt drive, but it is very unfair to apply what is or may be a proble...
Why According to some Turntable extremists Pitch Control and Direct Drive is Sacrilege?
Like Raul said, please tell us who regards pitch control and (or) direct drive as sacrilege?  Of course, the two are not necessarily synonymous, but we can leave that aside for now. Another attack on useful discourse by the pointless thread starter.
ZYX Optimum phono cartridge - a defining statement
analogvm, With respect to your question, my response is, "You and me both".  There is a story about Abraham Lincoln, who was a surveyor before he went into politics.  He billed one of his customers the sum of $300 for surveying a property.  The cu...
ZYX Optimum phono cartridge - a defining statement
I would take issue with some of nandric’s analyses of my character traits, but I do want to point out that I agree with Chakster’s basic thesis that the recent versions of the universe are overpriced. I’m only pointing out that most of us can’t so...
ZYX Optimum phono cartridge - a defining statement
Chakster, are you listening? The ZYX models you’ve owned are not in the same league with the UNIverse series. Therefore your opinion of ZYX is at best incomplete. Also, you consistently act as if anyone can just go out and buy NOS vintage cartridg...
Plinth ideas for DENON PD-80 DD turntable
I use ss300 on my TT101. If the dp80 was in regular use, I’d buy an ss300 for it,too.I’ve been in Tokyo this whole time, visiting our son. When I get back home I’ll check the condition of the Dp80 platter.
Plinth ideas for DENON PD-80 DD turntable
Just speculating but SFTG reads like the prefix of a Technics part number.
ZYX Optimum phono cartridge - a defining statement
Nandric, your point about the difficulty in repairing the original Uni is well taken, but I believe that all the later versions from Uni II on to the Optimum are “open” designs and can be repaired by any of the usual suspects, including the factor...
Plinth ideas for DENON PD-80 DD turntable
Bima, my dp80 platter could well be just like yours. I haven’t closely examined it in years. So my own description may have been inaccurate. My mat is definitely OEM, has “DENON” inscribed in the rubber on the underside, like yours. It’s thick wit...
ZYX Optimum phono cartridge - a defining statement
Audiotomb, I respect your effort both to purchase all those great ZYX cartridges and to report your long term experiences. I am and have been a big fan of the original Universe, and I have no doubt that some of its progeny may be even better.  How...
Technics SL-1200 goes out of production
Raul, good point!
Technics SL-1200 goes out of production
I have no dog in this fight, but I do happen to be here in Tokyo for the past two weeks.  Today and about two days ago, I saw for sale at Yodibashi Camera what was labeled as a Technics SL1200 Mk 7.  Yes, mark seven.  What’s up with that?  Yodibas...
Can we finally put Reel to Reel out of its misery? Put it to rest people.
Doctor Negativo strikes again with another pointless rant.
JVC MC1 Moving Coil Cartridge - Heritage?
Thanks, Chakster. The author of that piece is a wise man, even when his English is translated from Japanese. His experiences as a general rule parallel my own. Which is why I am loathe to make definitive statements about anything. Related to Audio...
I'm putting to rest worrying about sibilance
Teo, so sorry. I must have woken up on the wrong side of the turntable. But many of your recommendations are “far out”, in my opinion. If you care to amplify, I’m curious.
