Ok guys 4-2.Surprised, Al. Have you tried without?
Ok guys Dust cover off and placed in storage: 4Dust cover on at all times: 1 (Mijo)I added my vote for no dust cover to those of Chak, Slaw, and Miller Carbon, for a total of 4.To be clear, leaving a dust cover attached to the plinth in “up” position is a...
Finally bought a new Turntable! Jay, by definition we assume that an “integrated amplifier” has on one chassis both a line stage and an amplifier. A line stage takes signal from several sources, eg, a phono stage, CD player, tuner, TV, etc, and allows you to select among them fo...
Finally bought a new Turntable! I don’t know who said that the load resistance will affect the gain, except as I noted where the load resistance is nearly equal to, equal to, or less than the internal resistance of the cartridge. When the load resistance equals the internal resi...
Finally bought a new Turntable! The load resistance effects the phono section so possibly Sim knows their design goes unstable at 47K, but otherwise what they wrote is hogwash. If you like it, it’s good. A sign of instability would be exaggerated ticks and pops.
Finally bought a new Turntable! No effect until you get near to or below the internal resistance of the cartridge.
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously? Then state your source. I have no idea whether you’re right or wrong. And I never said or suggested you made it up. I’ve searched the internet and can’t find an ss300 owner manual, even in Japanese. I’m just curious; that’s my nature.
Finally bought a new Turntable! There is a “wrong” load resistance. For optimal transfer of the signal theory says the load resistance should be ~10X the internal resistance of the MC cartridge. Above 10x (e.g. 47K ohms) is also no problem. When the load resistor falls below a v...
Finally bought a new Turntable! 66db is more than adequate gain for the Hana SL. Are you using a separate line stage? If so, active or passive? If active, it probably adds yet more gain. If passive do you know if the impedance match is ok? What amplifier and speaker? All of thes...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously? Raul, what are you talking about? I have the ss300 you sold me. Can you provide some factory published information to support the idea that SAEC recommended drilling LPs? If you can, that would remove all doubt. If you can’t then maybe you can say...
Manley Chinook Owners Tube Rolling Apparently the Chinook uses two 6922s per channel. If that’s not correct, stop reading this, because I don’t want to mislead you. If it is correct then you would mess around with the tubes closest to the centerline of the chassis. That’s if it’s c...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously? By the way, if one were paranoid about the platter mat slipping on the platter, very thin double-sided tape would forever take care of that problem. As to the issue of an LP sliding on the surface of the SS 300, I find that doubtful. There is some...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously? Chak, can you post some photos? I yield to Raul’s description because I know he’s seen, tried out, or owned most everything, but the notion of drilling an LP as he described it seems dubious at best. On the other hand, my sample of the SS 300 has ...
Manley Chinook Owners Tube Rolling Tubes of the same type made by different manufacturers do sound different to me. But in my experience differences don’t hold up over time. Then too, same tubes from same maker can sound different from one another; there’s a sample to sample differ...
Manley Chinook Owners Tube Rolling Cords are only a little more overrated than tube rolling. Which is overrated. |
