Starting research for turntable
I would subtract Music Hall and add Basis and SOTA Cosmos to your list, ahead of Sapphire. I’d also add Nottingham Hyperspace or above. More to come from others.
Assistance Identifying an Ikeda Cartridge
If you go into any higher end audio salon in Tokyo you will find ikeda cartridges for sale off the shelf. They tend to be expensive even there. Among the many models there are several in the 9 series. Are you folks saying these modern post-ikeda-S...
Advice for novice needed on turntable
If you want bling look at Transrotor or Clearaudio, for examples. The Technics may not be sexy enough. Or take a look at custom models from Artisan Fidelity based on the Garrard 301. I prefer direct drive so if the Technics is in fact too tame thi...
Breakdown of Turntable Performance
The OP asked about relative IMPORTANCE, and most guys responded with a COST analysis.  That's just one reason why the question is so complex. On a cost basis, I have often found that a very fine turntable and exceptional tonearm can bring out unex...
TT, 12" Tonearm. Who tried and ended up preferring 12" arm?
12-inch tonearm made of cocobolo must have very high effective mass. Fine for low compliance cartridges. Not so fine for high compliance ones. There is no single best length or best material for a tonearm.
INNER GROOVE DISTORTION
Ct, My question was a simple one, I thought.  You named the following as factors that impede the stylus: "tonearm setup, alignment [which is really the same thing], antiskate, condition of record".  A lot of this depends upon how you look at it, b...
TT, 12" Tonearm. Who tried and ended up preferring 12" arm?
Dear Mijo, You wrote, "Even a cheap modern turntable transfers very little energy to the surrounding environment. A good turntable with a good record hold down system that dampens the record with a stiff multi bearing arm set up correctly will ...

Elliot, I guess you have decided to be anal about the rubber bushing and CW droop, but in any case, the UA77 is not in the same league with the UA7045 or 7082.  I'm sure it "works", however.  It's actually a piece of cake to replace the rubber gro...
What is a Servo Tonearm?
I think the term applies to linear trackers that are motorized. The pivot is pushed across the LP surface by a motor that receives feedback based on the movement at the stylus tip. Thus such tonearms describe a succession of tiny arcs as they move...
INNER GROOVE DISTORTION
Ct, You wrote, ""anything" that is going to impede the stylus travel, be it tonearm setup, alignment, antiskate, condition of record - will be heard more readily at the end. Another challenge for the vinyl audiophiles."Can you be more clear abou...
Simaudio 810lp vs. Brinkmann Edison phono stage
Raul, you’re correct but my point was that a preamp with an output impedance of 1000 ohms can drive even as low as a 10K load without problems of the sort you mentioned. And  the great majority of amplifiers especially including solid state ones, ...
TT, 12" Tonearm. Who tried and ended up preferring 12" arm?
Mike, Your testfor the validity of a dust cover is fatally flawed. The problem with dust covers is due to the fact that sonic energy radiates from the cartridge as it traverses the LP. Trapping that energy under a dust cover so that vibrations bou...
INNER GROOVE DISTORTION
For what it's worth, the bearing type would have nothing to do with the magnitude of the skating force, all other things being equal, or of the amount of anti-skate needed to correct distortion due to the skating force.  It's merely that with a un...
TT, 12" Tonearm. Who tried and ended up preferring 12" arm?
I’ll agree that the sagging photo is a bit too sagging. It’s condition is something like mine, which does need a new grommet.Since there are may be half a dozen people in the whole world who give a s**t about this question, maybe we should stop? A...

Chak, I am looking at your post of 12/22 at 12:06.  Do you not see a slight sag in the CW, even for your pristine example?  I do.
