MC Cartridge: Elliptical; around 0.5mv; track 1.25-1.75; Affordable
Is this a question?
KOETSU VERMILION and audio research PH7
Forgot to say you should be ok as is in terms of gain. My Urushi Wajima  behaves as if it puts out more like 0.5-0.6mV.

First, as wlutke says, the output is at least 0.4mV, unless the cartridge is in the Platinum series, which I doubt because I don’t think Koetsu made a Platinum version of the Urushi types. (Vermilion is essentially a red Urushi.) Second, it’s not ...
Why Does My Nottingham Motor Seem To Run Fast?
Ned, In your first post, you wrote, "Not impressed with the motor either, unless I spin it really fast it never gets up to full speed."  I am not sure what that meant, but I assume whatever the problem was, it has also been cured.  Keep in mind th...
MC Cartridge: Elliptical; around 0.5mv; track 1.25-1.75; Affordable
I certainly don't doubt the ears of you guys who say you have zeroed in on THE correct load for your MC cartridge.  I have universally found that there IS a load resistance that begins to degrade the sound of an MC, usually one that is significant...
MC Cartridge: Elliptical; around 0.5mv; track 1.25-1.75; Affordable
Somewhere up this thread I read that your phono stage has a fixed input resistance of 100 ohms . Then I read that the Dynavector 301 has an internal resistance of 40 ohms. If both of those numbers are correct, and if you absolutely cannot change t...

VTF per se is not directly proportional to record wear, although it is a factor, and these days you can find MC cartridges with  “exotic” stylus shapes for under $1K. So, like jperry said, how much do you want to spend?
What is the maximum amperage on the 15 volt side for the Pro-ject Power Box ds2 Sources
So what is it or what was it that requires 18V/~0.5A, per oldhvymec's post?  He refers to "it", and I thought for sure he was referring to the TT.  Now I am just curious.
What is the maximum amperage on the 15 volt side for the Pro-ject Power Box ds2 Sources
Millercarbon, What the heck are you talking about?  Who wants to get 100A out of a wallwart?  Furthermore, not all wallwarts are simple transformers; some contain rectified power supplies and can directly deliver DC voltage; I suspect that is the ...
Technics SL-1210GAE Anniversary
Chakster, Have you heard the Nagaoka JT1210?  If so, what were its shortcomings compared to the cartridges you commonly recommend?  If not, how can you dismiss it so casually and forcefully?  Nagaoka has a reputation for producing some great MM ca...

I realize that to detect a voltage sag, you need a voltmeter and access to nodes on the power input side of the tt where you can assess DCV.  That might be a problem.  In which case, you might just hook it up and let the turntable run for an hour ...

I appreciate your predicament. Since wall warts are not very expensive, why not avoid the issue by using two discrete supplies? In any case, what erik is saying is that if the PS cannot supply 1.6A of current under the load represented by turntabl...
Newb Tube question
Caveats, in relation to "tube rolling".  First, in my experience mediocre sounding gear does not become wonderful sounding gear via tube rolling.  If you don't like the sound of your preamplifier, don't expect to transform it by buying expensive "...
Went from brilliant to distortion
desalvo, Do I understand correctly that you replaced 12AX7s with ECC802?  The ECC802 is equivalent to a 12AU7, which is a much different tube electrically, compared to a 12AX7, as noromance already suggested.  You made some remark about needing mo...
