Need help: turntable market in the $1500-$2000 range is overwhelming
The OP wrote, "I’m agnostic at best about direct drive. Yeah, I’m dumb."You might have a point that this statement does not entirely rule out DD. My own point is that if someone wants to buy one of those cookie-cutter belt-drives, I let them.  As ...
Need help: turntable market in the $1500-$2000 range is overwhelming
You explicitly said you are not interested in a direct-drive turntable, and yet at least 3 of us recommended direct drive.  I won't add to the list, but I will say that among the belt-drive turntables you did list as options there is not much diff...

Issue with dynamic range database
Seems to me as a total lay person in this field, and speaking only to the question of which process is more "dynamic", that if either your input RIAA emphasis or your phono stage's RIAA compensation circuit are not perfect, then that will inevitab...
EMT 75th Anniversary series... TSD75 SFL ... and a bit of history.
Thanks for the photos of your system. You are able to get away with having your two turntables directly in front of speakers?  Seems like a risky choice in terms of airborne vibrations and direct feedback.  But if it works, it works.
Otono-Edison MC cartridges
What Mijo says may or may not be true of woodworking tools (that the Japanese "hoard" the best stuff for themselves), but I rather doubt it is true of audio-related products.  First of all, what does the statement mean, that the Japanese select ou...
New Zirconia Pipe Cantilever .. What's up with that ?
mixupload, Broad generalizations such as the one you make are almost never bullet proof, and yours are riddled with holes.
New Zirconia Pipe Cantilever .. What's up with that ?
Chak, Just don't let your wife know that you are thinking about zirconium.  I haven't read this whole thread, but my hat is off to you for your interest in such arcane subjects.  If someone else hasn't mentioned it, I think in the old old days sty...
Running LOMC with MM (47K) loading
Larry,  200 ohms would be fine for most LOMC cartridges that have an internal resistance of 20 ohms or less, but there are some exceptional LOMC cartridges that have a higher internal resistance and will be affected by 200 ohms as a standard.  I t...
SAEC WE 506/30 incoming. Anybody here with any experience with this arm?
tkr, You got me interested in this topic.  I don't know why; I am pretty much sated when it comes to tonearms, and the SAEC tonearms would not be on my menu, even if I were in the market.  Anyway, if you search on "SAEC 506/30" here on the Analog ...
SAEC WE 506/30 incoming. Anybody here with any experience with this arm?
Raul knows a lot about SAEC tonearms.  Maybe he will chime in. Or search posts by Raul on SAEC.
SAEC WE 506/30 incoming. Anybody here with any experience with this arm?
tkr, I cannot elaborate, because it seems to me that one or more of the SAEC tonearms is built for their own unique geometry.  Some alignment mavens don't like them at all for that reason.  Otherwise, your tonearm may be built for Stevenson alignm...

Incorrect for Baerwald.

Pindac,  I apologize if my earlier post seemed overbearing.  I do respect that each of us has a slightly different "taste" in SQ, for want of a better phrase.  What I assumed is that your phono stage was designed to provide what we commonly think ...
Silver Head Shell Leads
fiesta, I think you may have it backwards.  Aluminum is very apt to cause problems when in close contact with any of several metals.  But I would have thought that gold would be less of a problem than iron or steel, bonded to aluminum.  Anyone who...
