Preamp for Herron VTPH-2A
Which would reduce the value from that of the original 3A, which as you know had a built-in phono that was in some special versions said to have been designed by John Curl.  My best audio friend owned one of those latter for many years.  Neither h...

Modulus 3A is really still worth $2K? I am surprised.
Brand new Technics SL-1210GR platter wobble ... disappointed!
I don't see how anyone, no matter how unconcerned about audiophilia, could ignore a wobbling platter on a $1500 to $2K turntable. But on the other hand, one should never be surprised at human nature.

OK, so... I allowed for that.
The Lifespan of an LP?
How about "Auricle of Audiogon"?

With all due respect to some other responders, some of the suggestions for a linestage for someone with a $3K budget, assuming you are willing to spend every bit of that amount, are from outer space, in the sense that you can do so much better for...
SoundSmith cartridges how good?
To the one guy who felt short changed by Peter in the course of a telephone conversation, it would help us to understand your angst if you would say what the subject was and what was your question. Because in general, there is absolutely no other ...
The Lifespan of an LP?
Early CDs were so bad to begin with that I wonder how one could tell if they were lately deteriorating, except by visible criteria.
Help me understand compliance!
Dave, I was using my Acutex LPM320 (C = 42) in an FR64S, albeit with a lightweight headshell.  FR64S has M = 35 with its OEM headshell.  My headshell probably knocked 10g off that. But add back 6g for weight of the cartridge plus screws, for a cal...
My new to me Herron VTPH-2A - First impressions
.Apologies. I did not see where you mentioned wanting a bit more gain. So go for it. I have no particular passion for passive preamplifiers by which of course I mean a buffer stage.
Phoenix Eagle Versions?
Those old idler drive motors as found in the Garrard and the Lenco are very in efficient, and I would not try to drive the Lenco motor anyway with anything less than the 25 W of the final version of the eagle. I don’t even think the Garrard motor ...
Phoenix Eagle Versions?
Yes, you are right that the falcon was 5 W not 15W. My bad, and thank you for correcting me. It was actually bugging me in the back of my mind that the falcon was 5 W, but I let it slide.

We don’t disagree one iota. The only issue is I misunderstood what you meant when you used the term passive preamplifier. Many people, myself included, would take that to mean a unit that has nothing in it but a volume control that can be implemen...
Electrovoice Duchess IV in California
Because I asked how it worked out when you inserted your new Lpad where there was previously no Lpad but instead a complex 5-way circuit ( based on my memory of the schematic) to affect treble balance. I certainly don’t “prefer” one or the other, ...
Turntable matching to MC or MM cart.
Mijo, What I was trying to say is that there is more to matching cartridges with tonearms than just concern about compliance and effective mass, and therefore the resonant frequency calculation.  I have found that some cartridges just come more al...
