Cartridge incompatibility, Soundsmith and Luxman If the OP wants to sell his Zephyr cartridge, I am interested. Just saying. I don’t advise it, but I’m interested.
Cartridge incompatibility, Soundsmith and Luxman That's for sure. If he wants to let the tail (the 100 ohm resistors) wag the dog, then he must acquire a LOMC with typical LOMC inductance. But also gain must be high enough to work well with the inherent gain of the MC section (plus the linestag...
Cartridge incompatibility, Soundsmith and Luxman Larry, The low output Zephyr already has a low internal DCR of 10 ohms. That's not the problem. The problem is its inductance, which, at 2.5mH, is about mid way between a typical LOMC (about 50 microhenries) and a typical MM (500 millihenries, o...
Cartridge incompatibility, Soundsmith and Luxman Larry, If you read the responses, you will know that the problem is almost certainly the fact that the fixed value of the load resistance at the phono inputs of the Luxman is 100 ohms. The Zephyr is a rare low output MI type, which has high induc...
Cartridge incompatibility, Soundsmith and Luxman Changing the phono load resistors is neither a mod nor a tweak in my book. But why do you hold the opinion it shouldn’t be done?
Thoughts on the various platter materials used in Pro-Ject's midrange turntables? He’d have to buy two turntables to try two different platters.
Glanz moving magnet cartridges Dgob or Raul or anyone, last year I picked up a defective MF2500. It plays music but sounds strident, shrill, and distorted. Andy Kim more or less declined to work on it, either because he didn’t feel it was worth the cost of his effort or because...
Thoughts on the various platter materials used in Pro-Ject's midrange turntables? I think I was a little too emphatic in my statement about Pro-ject. They seem to have many satisfied users. I am no expert on mid or low cost belt drive TTs.
Thoughts on the various platter materials used in Pro-Ject's midrange turntables? Using 3 different materials on 3 different models from one company indicates the absence of any coherent theory at Pro-ject. So I wouldn’t buy a Pro-ject at all. You don’t say whether any or all of these come with a mat. Aluminum platter with mat ...
bellari Pa 532 passive preamp question. Rocky. what type of passive? Autoformer or resistors? what type of resistor attenuator? Series, Ladder, or Shunt? input and output impedance of attenuator? At what frequency? output impedance of phono? input impedance of amplifier?
International Transit Times I’m at a jazz festival so can’t help thinking of the Mercer tune, “Slow boat to China”. Only in this case the boat we hope is headed in the opposite direction.
Help.... I'm scared to 'upgrade'! For what it’s worth, I think I’ve read other comments to the effect that the JC3+ can be a tad hissy, john curl design credentials notwithstanding. This is not an issue inherent to vinyl reproduction.
bellari Pa 532 passive preamp question. It’s a matter of matching impedances and one would need more info about the passive unit and the amplifier in order to answer your question. Otherwise you can connect anything to anything. Also quality counts a lot with a passive attenuator.
International Transit Times Not at my fingertips. Plus, I think my return went through the dealer, in the Akihabara electronics mecca in Tokyo. They dealt with Koetsu on my behalf. If you really need their contact I’ll make an effort.
International Transit Times It's probably on a ship somewhere in the Pacific. Don't give up hope. My bet is you will eventually receive it, but "when" is the question. Obviously, anything going from Singapore to NH, or anywhere else in the US, is going by air. Obviously, ... |
