How best to eliminate LP warps
So you’ve recently examined each and every one of your 2000 LPs, and you know for sure that only 5 have a detectable warp? I doubt it. Actually I too had that smug attitude toward the issue, until recently I detected moderate to severe warps in 2...
Does anyone have any experience with a Sutherland Little Loco?
The low Z Sussuro regularly sold by SS has internal R of 10 ohms. That’s fine for current drive but its inductance is much higher than that of a typical LOMC, about 1000 times higher in fact. Which is why I thought they warn against current drive....
How best to eliminate LP warps
Thanks, guys.  I think we've covered the waterfront when it comes to curing warps. Unless someone else has a treatment not already mentioned.  My preference is to reduce the magnitude of the warp before playing the defective LP.  I am less interes...
How best to eliminate LP warps
Orb from japan via eBay works for me if I decide to go that route. $1150. As noted, 100V is no problem at all. A proper step down transformer can be had for ~$50.
How best to eliminate LP warps
edcyn baby, No vacuum hold down for me, on any of my 5 turntables. Once upon a time I did own a Star Sapphire Series III with vacuum, but no longer. I had completely forgotten about the Vinyl Flat options, probably because warps were such a rare ...
How best to eliminate LP warps
audioguy, I disagree that the method you mention works well, certainly not for both sides of the same LP, because warps in one direction that may be ameliorated would not be affected as much or at all, when you flip the LP. I do have a SOTA reflex...
Turntable noobie...what advice do you have?
I won’t participate in the endless and sometimes pointless debate about which cleaning method is best or especially about which static charge removal method is best, but I will say again that eliminating static charge and cleaning an LP are two en...
Does anyone have any experience with a Sutherland Little Loco?
Sebrof, do you have any idea what PL did to either the LL or the Sussuro to make them compatible? Because the Sussuro manual warns against mating it with most current drive phono stages.
Turntable noobie...what advice do you have?
It may be obvious to most, but cleaning and static control are two entirely separate subjects. Some forms of cleaning can even induce a static charge, and in my opinion a static charge-less LP is almost a theoretical or idealized concept that can ...
Voltage mode vs current mode phono stages
Without ever having heard or even seen any current drive phono stage, my current favorite just based on tech and reviews and cost, plus balanced operation, would be BMC MCCI. I suppose some aspects of SMD construction are beneficial, especially i...
Cartridge Loading.....Part II
Too late to edit my post, but I meant to say, "It connects the cartridge to the emitters of an array of discrete transistors."  Not "It connects the cartridge output to an the emitters of array of discrete transistors." Sounds like driving a trio...
Cartridge Loading.....Part II
Ralph, I just had a “duh” moment. Sutherland describes the input of his Loco and Little Loco as a “virtual” short circuit. I had heretofore interpreted that word in its more literary sense; virtual meaning “nearly “or “close to”. Thanks to your in...
Cartridge Loading.....Part II
I haven't kept track of which current driven phono stages on the market use op amps or discrete transistors or tubes in the input I/V stage, although I don't know of any that use a tube or how you could use a tube in that fashion.  However, I woul...
Cartridge Loading.....Part II
Ralph, you wrote, "The '0 Ohms' value you see in so many phono sections that have transimpedance inputs probably isn't helping people to understand what is going on. That value is probably the marketing department talking since they probably didn'...
Cartridge Loading.....Part II
Ralph, two questions: (1) what if the input device is a discrete transistor or a tube, not an op amp?  (2) the only way I can imagine two points separated by 5 ohms but at the same potential is if and when there is no current flowing. How does th...
