Victor TT 801 The world always benefits from a good cleaning. So thanks.
I finally got a record cleaning machine. First thoughts. What’s in it? Alcohols will eventually evaporate out of solution. I wouldn’t worry about it.
Victor TT 801 After limited investigation, it seemed the TT801 is a TT101 with vacuum platter. The TT801 used ICs where the TT101 used discrete transistors, in order for the 801 to accommodate the plumbing necessary for the vacuum feature.
Perimeter Ring Clamps: Yay?, Nay?, Sources?? Correct; I do not get your “sense of humor”. But I gather you followed Halcro’s advice, if that is what he wrote. As far as I know, he is very happy with his TT101.
Precision Motor Controller The point is you don’t want a controller that varies frequency and/or voltage to provide AC to a micro-seiki that in and of itself is a controller, at least as I understand it. Furthermore neither the VPI nor the Walker might output enough watts t...
Perimeter Ring Clamps: Yay?, Nay?, Sources?? I don’t understand. First, JP never suggested dumping Victor DD turntables. Second, in my experience the TT101 has been 100% reliable since JP repaired it. Or do you advocate dumping them because you may not be able to fit a ring?
Precision Motor Controller What Dover said. An AC power regenerator might help, but neither the Walker nor the VPI is appropriate here.
Perimeter Ring Clamps: Yay?, Nay?, Sources?? Elliott, I was looking at my TT101 with your quest in mind. As you know, the two platters present the same problem for fitting a perimeter ring. There is very little margin for error. In fact I can think of no “off the shelf” ring that would fit. ...
How best to eliminate LP warps Pindac, Please forgive me if I offended you in questioning the idea that TT bearings and their shafts commonly wear in the horizontal or lateral direction. I only meant what I actually wrote, that I have never seen it or heard from others that it ...
Perimeter Ring Clamps: Yay?, Nay?, Sources?? mulveling, I am surprised to learn that the Benz cartridges you named would have such strong magnets, because they also have high-ish internal resistance for an LOMC, which suggests that the coils have many windings, yet the output is "low". Thus ...
Voltage regulators and input impedance I just want to correct what I wrote on 06-01. I guesstimated the output impedance of the PH5SE at 200 ohms, based on the recommendation to mate it with an amplifier of not less than 20K ohms input Z. In fact, if one applies the 1:10 rule of thum...
Sumiko Songbird (High Output)/Music Hall MMF-5 One more vote against HOMCs, as compared to similarly priced LOMCs, MM, and MI. I stopped using them long ago; they just don't cut the mustard compared to good cartridges of other types, in my opinion, in my system. I owned and listened to Transf...
Long and Short Arms. YOU KNOW THEY FIT a Luxman PD444. Too bad we've lost Chakster. He was a PD444 maven. I hope Putin didn't get him for his outspoken political remarks. More likely he is in Audiogon purgatory for selling stuff here or touting it here and selling it elsewhere. The Technics B500 i...
Voltage regulators and input impedance Well, it’s not that the bass will roll off, although I guess it would at a barely measurable rate since the midrange input Z is stated to be 23K ohms, as that once you get below a ratio of 1:10 for output Z vs input Z, you start to lose more signa...
Tonearms for a Luxman PD-444 As I recall, a hole drilled for the standard FR mount will also accommodate the B60. At least it does so for me. I only have one comment on the long list of possible tonearms. Some of the lesser expensive SAEC tonearms have an odd geometry. This ... |
