Cartridges I just spent two days at the Capital Audiofest. On each of those days I spent 1-2 hours looking at and buying LPs. I ended up with about 20 new purchases (some brand new, some used). What struck me most was the astronomical prices for good used...
What a difference a setting makes. But I will wager that values above 200 were in any case better sounding than the original 100 ohms load. Or at least the flaws in SQ would be of a different nature, compared to 100 ohms.
Cartridges What cartridge have you got and what cartridge are you thinking about? Premium quality records are always to be sought but in neither case ( cartridge or LP) does cost necessarily correlate with performance. I am not a believer in hot stampers, so...
What a difference a setting makes. For every cartridge, dependent upon its internal resistance and inductance, there is a "critical" load resistance, below which (in terms of the ohmic value of the load resistor) its output starts to roll off noticeably and there can be a gradual l...
Tonearm Parallel? FWIW, I always start with top of headshell parallel to platter surface and if necessary adjust up or down in tiny increments (<2mm typically) if need is perceived. And yes you can do this by ear.
System that sounds so real it is easy to mistaken it is not live In the DIY community, Nichicon electrolytics are very highly regarded. Not a compromise at all compared to Vishay or CD. I use them and if I thought there was a better brand for a particular application I’d use that brand over Nichicon. The cost d...
Clearaudio Double Matrix Professional owners - technical question I would take some detailed photos of what you have, perhaps also indicating in some way (e.g., an arrow icon) where you think something might be missing, and send the photos to either the distributor or any other representative of the manufacturer...
Considering Nagra Tube Dac with Power Supply or MSB Reference ? Not only that, but this is an analog forum. There is a separate forum for this question, or maybe the OP has already been there. I am not trying to be a twit, (It requires no effort for me to be a twit.) But more response is likely to be gotten...
Clearaudio Double Matrix Professional owners - technical question Isn’t your question best answered by the Clearaudio distributor or the manufacturer themselves? Since you are in communication with someone who is supplying another missing part, perhaps that same source can advise you on this issue.
Anyone try Synergistic Research PHT... SR has a piece of a big room at the Capital Audiofest, running through the end of the day today. I avoided it yesterday, but maybe I’ll check it out when I head back there in a few minutes. Although I hesitate to be as blunt as Mijostyn, my genera...
Current sensing phono stages w/Rega? Mijostyn, you are extrapolating from “your own experience “ to a general principle. The results will vary according not only to internal R but also voltage output of the cartridge and input Z of the phono and intrinsic gain of the current driven i...
Source for resistors for an acoustech/sutherland phono preamp What hagtech said.
System that sounds so real it is easy to mistaken it is not live Raul, You are right. I apologize to you and any others who were offended by my and Mijostyn's going off topic. It seemed to be permissible because no one else was trying to change the subject, back to the actual subject of the thread. But, dear ...
Turntable question; Does Audio Technica make any good turntables? At this price point, turntables are as alike as peas in a pod, in my opinion. So just pick out a nice looking one that has one feature or another that particularly appeals to you, made by a good company, and you will be happy until you come down ...
Rolling Mullard 6DJ8 into GE 5670 Application Yes, the parameters that work for a designed 6SN7 would not tend to damage an E88CC. But you could get some improvement by increasing the plate current, which has to be done in such a way as not to exceed the recommended plate dissipation for an ... |
