Phono Stage upgrade to complement Dohmann Helix One Mk 2
Mijo wrote, "A given cartridge is going to require an arm of a given effective mass." My only point was and is that the cartridge and the mounting hardware ARE part of the effective mass of a functioning tonearm, their mass must be included if you...
What's A Good Upgrade From A Manley Steelhead?
Lamm not "lamb" in the last line of my post above.
What's A Good Upgrade From A Manley Steelhead?
Dhcod, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, regarding the superiority of the Lamm phono stage over the steelhead. My opinion is different. I have heard them both, and I do think the steelhead is a bit superior, although not by much. I certa...
Aligning cart on Rega style arms without defeatable anti-skating?
If I understand you correctly, the simple answer is yes, it can be a pain in the butt to set up a cartridge with antiskate applied. All tonearms that I have ever used permit disconnecting the antiskate device while doing an alignment. Have you act...
Help with cartridge wire clips
A toothpick with a round profile works fast and safely to open up the cartridge clips. I wouldn’t go near them with metal tools but an awl would probably work if you’re careful. You do want them to fit tightly as possible so don’t overdo it.

Does the CB manual state whether the value of 17g is inclusive of the weight/mass of a "typical" cartridge and mounting hardware?  If not, then add the weight of the cartridge plus hardware to the figure of 17g.  I enjoy the math and science of th...
Pickering XSV/5000 question
Joseph is in Hartford, CT, I think.  He is a good guy, I agree. I hadn't thought of that option because the question led me to think about a replacement assembly.
Pickering XSV/5000 question
Check eBay for an OEM Pickering stylus assembly.  You might get lucky. I could be wrong but I think other top end OEM Pickering styli will fit, like XSV7500 and XSV4500 or 4000, I forget which of those.  I am not sure why you posted about the DCR,...
What is you tonearm’s Maximum Distortion?
While I do hear some inner groove distortion sometimes, I am grateful to the last track for giving me a bit more listening time per side.
What is you tonearm’s Maximum Distortion?
If the numbers in the table published here by optimize are correct, two things pop out at me. First, the distortion figures are below 0.5% or equal to 0.5% in all cases. Given all the other distortions inherent to vinyl reproduction, does anyone h...
Pioneer PL630- upgrading the phono cable?
Geneology aside, how are you liking your cartridge with the OEM phono cables?

Effective mass of the tonearm will be related to the mass of the CW X (distance from center of mass of CW to pivot)-squared. So if you want to minimize EM then you’re nbest off with a heavier CW placed closer to the pivot.
Brand New Vinyl Static and Pops
Cleeds, the laugh is on me. Staticmaster not Dynagroove. I can’t even imagine how I came up with that name. Anyway in my experience it works better than anything else I own to eliminate static charge. Mine is wider than the one in your image, and ...
Brand New Vinyl Static and Pops
Has anyone got a Dynagroove brush? There’s a strip of polonium built in near the fibers that emits both positive and negative ions. You use it as a brush like the Audioquest brush. They were taken off the market because of the mildly radioactive p...

You know you need a heavier CW if your present CW is insufficient in weight to achieve the desired VTF with your particular cartridge. If you’re at the end of rear travel of the CW in order to achieve VTF, then too you might consider a heavier CW ...
