McIntosh US 110vac - good for Japan 100vac?
You are asking many different questions."anyone knows if i can use McIntosh power amp/preamp/integrated bought in US (110vac) in Japan - 100 vac" I think you should ask McIntosh this."can McIntosh convert or it has some jumper/swich inside to chan...

Charles1dad: so sorry to hear that. That's frustrating! Will continue to look forward to your comments.B_mueller: thanks for chiming in. Are you running preamp-less and with Amarra? Looking at your past threads I see you have had your fair share o...

Hello Charles1dad.I was wondering if your Octave finally cleared customs and you were able to receive it. Looking forward to your comments!Cheers!
Which Amp to Choose McIntosh MC7200 or MC275-V?
I own a 275 mk IV paired with B&W 804S and love it. The speakers' aluminum tweeter are considered bright by some people, and I find the combination with tubes to be very good. Your Focals were on my speakers short list too, but wasn't able to ...

Staehli,I am not familiar with the CD 21 transport, but from reading online it can upsample CDs. Were your comments/comparison between Octave and Benchmark based on 44.1 or 96 kHz output from the CD 21? I'm asking this because at another forum som...
most musical DAC under 1k?
Is the iPod your only source? Peachtree Audio iDac looks like a good candidate. Of course, there are many musical candidates under $1k, but most lack the iPod docking capability.

Staehli,What's the source you are using with the Benchmark and the Octave? Also, what's downstream from the DAC in your system?Thank you!
McIntosh and "hard" music?
It's a matter of taste and synergy with other components, as it has been said. I feed my MC275 from a Lamm LL2 and drive B&W 804S with it, plus a Rel sub. I listen to all sorts of music, including Motorhead, Rob Zombie, AC/DC...you get the pic...
step up transformer on cd player
Nineball,Do you have a good technician nearby that you trust? If so, I suggest you bring the CD player to him to check out. Many units have their internal transformers with tabs for 110 and 220V. It might be as easy as switching tabs internally. I...
5+ years old $5k player vs. current $2k player
Tubegroover,I hear you. Moreover, I'm basically on your same camp. I figure from your user name you are a tube person, and I also have a tube pre and amp. Also waiting for further user impressions. One thing to note is that it has been noted this ...
5+ years old $5k player vs. current $2k player
Tubegroover and others who might be interested in the Octave (as I am): There has been quite some talk about it over at computeraudiophile.com DACs forum. Member bhobba has one (as well as several other well regarded DACs). There are several menti...

Briang,I think the upsampling would be best done at the computer, then sent to the Metrum. An option for upsampling out of a CD player could be an Esoteric G25. Over at computeraudiophile a member has been trying with upsampling at the computer an...
Upgrade from Rotel RCD-1072
I have a 1072 and enjoy it very much. I recently added a Squeezebox Touch and I cannot tell the difference between the two playing the same 16/44.1 song from the same CD, and in both cases using analog out. Yet the Touch provides so much flexibili...

Charles1dad,OK, you have me really intrigued now. If the Metrum can deliver as much detail as a Bryston BDA1 or Wyred4Sound DAC2, yet be as musical as typical NOS DACs...it might be IT for me. Given the tradeoffs between musical/detailed at these ...
Need to replace my Denon 2910, have $400?
Hey Meadowman,I'm in the same boat: looking into DACs for the Touch. Seriously considering a Bryston BDA-1. What other DACs have you considered and what do you mean the EAD has a leg up? Heard it vs. others? I haven't ruled out the USB out mod, bu...
