Tube Amp Recommendation for a solid state guy I can also recommend the PrimaLuna - I went with the Dialouge 2 myself. I would not recommend the Rogue, though, unless perhpas you listen to alot of hard rock or metal, they are very edgy sounding.
Need help with a rack You might take a look at the Sanus Natural Furniture stuff.
Reag P-5 with Ortofon 2M Bronze...??? I bought a P5 and am very happy with it, and I also got the Rega Exact 2 cartridge, which does a very nice job, and just about any dealer should give you a deal on it since you are buying the table, too.
Vienna Acoustics or Proac I almost bought a pair of the ProAc Studio 140's - they are great, and would get my vote between those two choices.
Turntable selection advise I would second the Rega recommendation. I believe you can get the P1 for under $400. This would be a much better option than any of the cheap motor-driven Technics, etc. Belt-drive is the way to go.
Phono Pre Amp? I would vote for the Bellari VP129- great sounding little tube that I have seen used many times here on audiogon for under $200 usually.
Album Storage I don't mind the data entry, I have already done it in an Excel file. I was just wondering if there was a good program out there (perhaps LP specific) that does not rely on the barcodes, as this Collectorz seems to, at least from glancing at the w...
Do speaker cables really matter? I agree with Carl109 - simply renewing the electrical contact could have made the difference, so try your Kimbers again.
Album Storage Anyone know of a good software program for cataloging records on a Mac?
Bellari Hum I have been using one for six months now with no problems, and it sounds great. Nice to know there is a fix if there is a problem, though!
Our home system: How good it is? Yes, I read that. Very interesting. That is in large part what piqued my interest. For me, the jury will still be out until I have heard such a system, though. As I said, I am unfortunately not able to do that in my own set-up, currently and for t...
Our home system: How good it is? Raul, that thread is fascinating - I just read through the entire thing, including a couple of the external links. I will admit that I have never heard such a system as yours and some of the others described. None of my friends/family that are aud...
The best CD Player for the money I would vote for the Rega players, I chose the Apollo myself, but the Saturn is even better.
how much would you say a good set up cost Like alot of folks here, I would say you don't have to spend anywhere near 30-35K to put a great sounding system together. If you buy smartly, it can easily be done for under 10K. My brother put together a system that only cost him about 4K, I think.
Preamp recommendations up to $2000 The PrimaLuna amps sound great, and are very user-friendly, if you want to stick to the tubes. |
