Buying used/vintage Martin Logan speakers
Hi Mofimadness---I'm very surprised to hear about the panel reliability/durability.  My experience with the original Aerius was quite a bit shorter than that.  I'm not a smoker and the environment isn't particularly dusty nor humid.  Maybe I just ...
Looking for info on aftermarket fuses
Folkfreak,  no need to worry about warranties as I haven't bought "new" equipment in years.  I like newish used equipment as I hate the beating you take on the resale value.  Is this advice only applicable to the SR fuses or is this true of most o...
Member's recommendations for tube amplification
If you'd like to go with a SET amplifier with some power, then the 805 based amps should be high on your list.  The Cary gets lots of praise though I haven't heard it.  I do own the JAS Array 2.1 which has a built-in passive line stage than can be...
Question for cable/wire naysayers.....
Glad to see all the positive responses.  I feel the same as what I've read here but I posted this to offer a forum to speak out against the "supposed" benefits of upgrading cables.  Seems like in every post I've read lately someone has to chime in...
Question for cable/wire naysayers.....
Thanks for the responses so far.  I'm not trying to stir the pot if you mean start a fight.  I really want to know if the naysayers believe that cables/wire make no difference.  In my early audio years, I firmly believed it was just hype or snake ...
Anthem 225 vs Parasound A21 vs Emotiva Xpa 7 Gen 2
I haven't heard the Cambridge 851 but I have an 840W which I sometimes use directly with either an Upgrade Company or a Modwright modded Oppo 83SE.  The Modwright had the outboard tube power supply while the Upgrade Co is solid state.  I have a pa...
Emotiva xpa 1 monos
On the used market (here, for example) the Cambridge 840W actually usually sells for less :)
Emotiva xpa 1 monos
Had a pair of the Gen 1 XPA-1 monoblocks a couple years back that I bought to drive BG Corp 520 loudspeakers.  I had been using a Theta Intrepid, bi-amping with 4 channels but wanted to see how they'd sound with more power.  Thought the Intrepid w...
Why so much less for the new Oppo UDP-203?
I couldn't find any info regarding the remote and volume control.  Does anyone know if these new models with have built in remote volume control as the other Oppos have?
looking for a quality integrated that allows for bypassing of the preamp section
Yeah, there's certainly an avid group of vintage fans.  I had a buddy with an old Sansui integrated who played vinyl exclusively on Def Tech BP-8 speakers to very good effect.  Compared to my system, his was lacking detail and focus but it was alw...
looking for a quality integrated that allows for bypassing of the preamp section
czarivey-----that's an odd choice for the circumstances.  What's your thinking on that recommendation?  I love vintage tuners but never have considered vintage amps.  My thinking is the parts available today are far superior to the old stuff.  Am ...
looking for a quality integrated that allows for bypassing of the preamp section
I don't mind switching the one pair of interconnects from an input to the direct input to the amp (I've seen this on some of the bigger Chinese muscle integrateds).  The big Shengya and Xindak come to mind but these just never seem to be available...
looking for a quality integrated that allows for bypassing of the preamp section
paraneer----might there be a list of integrateds that allow you to disconnect the preamp from the amp section via jumpers?  Thanks again.
looking for a quality integrated that allows for bypassing of the preamp section
paraneer----thank you very much for both the term I was missing and a comprehensive list .  Much appreciated!
Upgrade from Emotiva XPA1 to Bryston 28bsst2 or Pass X350.8
I can't comment on either amp you're considering but I had a pair of the Emotivas on hand for a couple of weeks.  I directly compared them to a Theta Intrepid and a Cambridge Audio 840W.  Speakers were BG Corp 520dx or Meadowlark Audio Herons (hot...
