DVD-A question
3. DVD-As CAN contain separate stereo and MCH tracks but some do not. (Lately, it seems that is true for SACD as well.)Also, I have added a 6" LCD monitor to my rack for use in programming the player and for program selection when necessary. It is...
Power cable connectors
It's a relatively simple mechanical task but putting a 20A connector on a 15A line/cable is unsafe.
Paradigm vs. Aperion Audio

Putting Audio & HT on wall floor is $1000 sq ft
Scary thought. I have the entire front portion of my Manhattan living room devoted to speakers and amps and it is 14.5' wide by 6' deep. That's 87sq.ft. and is in addition to the space for the double-wide equipment rack, record/CD storage and the ...
phantom center channel
BTW, to get back to the OP's query: If he is mounting the center channel inside an 'entertainment center,' these subtleties may be irrelevant.Kal
phantom center channel
Eldartford-We are on the same page. I was trying to emphasize that a real center channel source with a center channel speaker is superior to either a phantom center or a real one derived from a 2channel source. As for recovering what 'should' have...
phantom center channel
Edesilva-I do not disagree with your philosophy. However, I only recommend using the number of speakers that correspond to the number of discrete channels in the source. Thus, for stereo, only two. For 3.0 (MLP and LS SACDs), 5.0 and 5.1, I find a...

Difference?
Depends on what you mean when you use the term "monitor." Many are large, full range speakers.Kal
Theta cassablanca II, bel canto pre6, Cary cinema8
The BC Pre6 is all analog and won't decode DD or DTS. Great preamp, though.Kal

Best full orchestra recordings?
Yes, Ashkenazy is more taut but there's something about Previn's Symphony #1 and the Dances that is lacking in Ashkenazy's otherwise superb recordings.Kal
Best full orchestra recordings?
Which recording of the Symphonic Dances? Everyone seems to tout the Johanos/Nonesuch(or Classic or MF) but I prefer Ashkenazy/Decca or the Previn/EMI. The latter is a little too full in the midbass but otherwise big and spacious.
