help, please: hum on active buffer stage
The first thing I would do would be to separate the PS from the buffer. If the hum is on both channels, the PS is the more likely culprit.Kal

Speakers & the room
Consult Rives or consider posting this along with a diagram of your room including all relevant objects to the room acoustics thread on AVS forum. The latter is free but you will have to decide for yourself among the many opinions you will get.Kal

I use the Environmental Potentials EP-2450 with my Bel Cantos for the same reason. Kal
Oppo 983 vs Sony SCD-777ES, any experiences?
Via the Benchmark DAC, you are limited to CDs, not SACDs. So, as SACD players via analog outputs, the advantage of the Sony remains. Via the HDMI output of the Oppo, things are different.Kal
Why not use mains as centers
Right, Bob, except I did that a few years back. ;-)I recall being annoyed at the repetition of basic articles in the hobbyist mags every 2-3 years back when I was an avid reader of the audio and photography mags. Now, I realize that there are new ...
Best SSP - Upgrade from Integra DTC 9.8
I have heard the ML only at show demos and found it impressive although that was to be expected. I have not auditioned it at home.Kal
Good Analog EQ
Peidpiper makes a good point. There are many types of EQ and each is best suited to particular applications. Manley's Massive Passive is a parametric EQ which could be used for room correction (2channel only) with the support of external measureme...

Good. As I said, and for many reasons, Maggies are a special case.Kal
Good Analog EQ
11-09-08: Piedpiper: "It is never advisable to position speakers the same distance from both walls as it creates strong standing waves."They do not create standing waves. It is that equal distances create interference between the direct and reflec...
Why not use mains as centers
As I stated earlier, the issue is the relationship of the driver spacing to the wavelength. In the bottom end, the wavelengths are large enough that the relative placement of the drivers is inconsequential. I was surprised at the resistance to thi...
Why not use mains as centers
Jaybo wrote: "two centers as mains(l and r) will work too."If you stand them up vertically. ;-)Kal

Analog outputs or digital outputs? Makes a big difference.Kal
Why not use mains as centers
Well, gentlemen, you can disagree with me all you want but the physics does not change. Two drivers emitting the same signals but displaced from each other by more than 1/2 wavelength will produce additive and subtractive interactions resulting in...
Why not use mains as centers
Maggies are a special case. Considering their construction, using a pair, edge-to-edge with the HF drivers together, actually works well and, imho, better than any of their dedicated centers. In fact, one of the very best MCH systems I have ever h...
