Captive cord mod, need some thoughts...........
I've done this sort of thing many times. I personally can't understand why on a power amp 18 ga. cord would be used, especially on a Rotel amp. I've owned your amp and presently have two Rotel amps, a 951 MkII and an earlier 951. This is a good up...
"New" Tannoy System 12s
I'm far from an expert, but I can tell you not all "watts" are created equal. Secondly, a receiver is a compromise. (As one salesperson I talked w/ a very long ago called them "toasters".) You're not going to the best out or know what your Tannoy'...
Buying new, but old speakers
I owned a pr. of these spks. in the 90's. What I remember about these spks. was the amount of bass they reproduced. Very impressive bass but the rest of the sound was so-so, IMO. Honestly, I'm trying to remember what replaced these in my system at...
Anyone have any experience in car audio?
When you say you have component spks in the front, where are the mid/woofers and the tweeters located? Are they far from each other? If your mid/woofer is near the floor, I have found that road noise (which increases w/speed) will drown out this s...
Speaker input question for Jolida 102B
If I remember correctly, this amp uses 2 12ax7 tubes?(I owned this amp @ one time, long ago.) I played around w.these two tubes, buying a set of Telefunken and RCA Black somethings. Both vintage and both tested very good from a reputable seller. I...
NAD 7175 vs 320
The transformer will be different for sure. The electronic parts will naturally be older w/the 7175PE. Things may need to be cleaned/replaced eventually. (Capacitors) Age of components doesn't really bother me so much. I have quite a few older pie...
what power amp to get
The question is how good will your int. amp sound as a stand alone pre-amp? I own a few Rotel pieces and I find them to be great value and sound good. (W/just a few simple/inexpensive mods, will sound much, much better.) You could find a Rotel RB-...
NAD 7175 vs 320
One's a Rec. and another an int. amp. Yes? I'll assume the 7175 was much more expensive compared to the 320 when each was originally sold. The 7175 has more power. Older, which does not mean anything bad or against. Do you listen to radio? I'd per...
Int-Amp after Rega Mira 3? What's Next?
I just thought of one other thing I would do along w/changing out the binding posts, change out the cheap IEC socket. For under $20 you can get a nice Furatech model. (Gold plated version for more warmth.) It's a easy upgrade on the Brio 3. Then f...
Int-Amp after Rega Mira 3? What's Next?
What I found on my Brio 3 (now sold) was that the spk. binding posts are pretty cheap quality and sound poor. It's easy to change out to something better. Vampire BP Hex's or even better are Superior Electric BP-31's. Changes the sound for the bet...
best pre-amp new or used for under $500?
If you a Rotel amp why not match it up w/a Rotel pre-amp? It would cosmetically match. How about an RC-995? That would be my choice since it has a remote and it is a very good pre-amp. For a song you pick-up an older Rotel pre-amp (RC-970/980BX) t...
Advice Please...H/K or NAD?
Once owned an NAD 1700/2600A and these were nice pieces of equipment. In my experience, I've found that receivers will not as good as seperates. So, if you decide on the NAD's you'll have to look into another IC and you might catch the (nearly nev...
Interconnect Help - Recommendation Please
Recently had the pleasure of meeting Joe M of Auricle Audio Design. I bought two sets of interconnects. (Pre-amp to amp, tuner to pre-amp. Awaiting another set to connect my CDP.) All I can say these are EXCELLENT sounding IC's at extremelly reaso...
NAD c326 enough power for Totem Rainmakers?
It really depends on the speakers sensitivity and impedence curve. The NAD should be fine for moderate listening levels. (I just bought a used NAD 302 here and let me tell you this 25w little amp is a gem. My spks. are really effecient so it has n...
Tuner/Marantz ST 6000
I've owned the ST-46/55/59 and auditioned the ST 6000. These are pretty good tuners. I love tuners and own quite a few. If you don't mind not having a remote, many vintage tuners will sound better though.
