Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
George,Are you, or could you, consider making a fully balanced version with some sort of remote volume function?
Anyone listening to 24/196?
All the time. I download them from HD Tracks and play them on my Blacknote DSS which accepts the format.
With $20,000 in your hand, what speaker would you
How about using the 20K to buy and sell used speakers on audiogon? You will get to play with some great ones and have a lot of fun in the process now that you have some time.
Best digital stream player
Look at the Blacknote DSS line. No computer necessary, just a USB flash drive or external hard drive. It plays all kinds of files up to 24/192
Quad or Magnepan?
I own Maggies (20.1) and have heard the GV a lot. Different systems, but of equal quality. The GV are more dynamic and have better bass (WEIN) If you do get and keep them both you will be switching them out every week or so. The GV's are my choice...
Passive sub for Magnepan 3.6r?
Get a Velodyne Digital Drive Sub. Place it close to you and keep the output under 50 HZ. I do it and it's great.
Looking for New Speakers - Suggestions
Forget the Maggies, you'll be behind the speakers changing fuses more than in front of them listining. I love the Maggies and own them, but they are not for your needs of very loud volume.
Treble Grain? How to Eliminate?
Have you tried it with another input? Some say the USB is inferior to RCA in a lot of DACs
Subs with Maggies???????
I use a Velodyne DD-15 (15 inch driver) with my MG20.1 It only plays 15 to 55 HZ with a very steep rolloff (48 db) you can put it almost anywhere at those low freqs. I like it and it gives the punch that is lacking on the Maggies.
one large cap, or a few added up?
Thanks for all the responses. I think I will be going with 5 Clarity SA 24uf caps in parallel for a combined total of 120uf. I will hold off on a bypass cap because there seeme to be two camps on this. I will try it without bypass for a while, the...
one large cap, or a few added up?
Is there any way to break-in new caps without having to have them installed in my speakers. It seems that they will need 100 to 500 hours before they are "right". That's a lot of time! Could I just wire them up in parallel and plug them in the AC ...
one large cap, or a few added up?
thanks guys. It seems that it is hard to find a 120uf cap so I will have to use a combination. Is it better to use 5 24uf, or to stagger the values like 50,33,25 and 12 which total 120uf as well?John
Disconnect the woofer
Yes, it seems that I am passivly bi-amping the Mid/high by sending a full range signal through the maggie crossover. I did this because I did not want to mess with the best part of the speaker. I couldn't do a better job at voicing the speaker tha...
Disconnect the woofer
Sorry to get back so late. The speakers are Mag 20.1 and I disconnected the woofer by not hooking the wire from the crossover to the woofer inputs on the panels. I am using open baffle subs for 110 Hz and lower and it sounds great. I split the sig...
New Fuse Thread . . .
Can anyone comment on the Acme fuses ($12 each) vs. the Hi-Fi ones that are $40 each? Thanks
