How important is the transport when using a DAC? One thought occurred to me. For the difference between the CD sound and the flash drive, am I just hearing the difference between ripped FLAC files and the digital files on the original CD?
How important is the transport when using a DAC? OK, this is late in the game for this thread and slightly off topic, but the insights provided here may be helpful to me. I have an Arcam AVR400 receiver and have been trying to set up a modest music and HT system around it and Monitor Audio Apex ...
Oppo BD 105, stand alone DAC, or music streamer The optical Toslink connection from the Samsung as described here is set up to bypass it's DACs, so I was comparing it to CDPs, BDs and DVD players used as transports only in my system, IE unprocessed digital out to AVR. Not comparing with all CDP...
Oppo BD 105, stand alone DAC, or music streamer Update on this thread.I haven't moved on a 2-channel DAC or universal disk player yet, but my Panasonic Blu-Ray quit working reliably, so after some consideration of Arcam or Oppo BDP players, I decided to just replace with another mass market pla...
Gone are the days of the great audition. Hmm, dunno. I should have bought more stuff from Tim! I happened to be in the neighborhood this weekend and saw that his store was still there with gear in the window. Try sending him an email. Yeah, I have gone in the Magnolia stores on Roosevelt...
Gone are the days of the great audition. Seeing an ad in the Seattle Times that Magnolia HiFi is having a "moving" sale at their Roosevelt store, I went to see if they had any good bargains. Turns out they are "moving" to a small space in the big Yellow Sign store a few miles away. While...
What HDMI Cable ? +1 for RadioShack Pipeline. Decent cable, sounds and video performance better than generic wires to my ears. For long run I use Blue Jeans to cut cost. Pretty decent too, for video at least.
DIGITAL OUT: Optical Cable vs. Coaxial Cable Fwiw, I have found that the HDMI connection from my decidedly consumer level Panasonic BDP provides better sound than the Toslink for two channel redbook playback, using roughly equal priced ($50) cables. The Toslink is plactic fiber I believe. I ...
Seeking alternatives to Oppo Thanks for the suggestion.
Has anyone tried Arcam BDP300? That is very helpful. One last idea would be to get the Arcam BDP and use as transport with quality two channel DAC for redbook playback. That way get BD performance of BDP300 with more versatility and higher performance in two channel, although a...
Has anyone tried Arcam BDP300? Thanks for your insight. Does your audio evaluation between Arcam and other two include redbook playback? Your Rega is outside my budget, but have considered just replacing my CDP with Arcam CD37 or Naim CD5XS or similar since I listen to more mus...
Seeking alternatives to Oppo I don't want to hijack this thread, but I am looking for a one box solution for CD/BD to improve on and replace existing boxes in my HT/music system. I generally listen to more CDs and vinyl than watch movies. The Receiver is Arcam AVR400 which I ...
Killing BluRay, new Oppo BR 83 You said streaming is the future. I never really disagreed with this, I tried to support your point above by saying that my kids generally get their entertainment from streaming/downloads/cloud supplemented with disks. My son is a budding audiophi...
Recommendations for CL rated speaker cable Thanks all for the input.Internetmin, I am currently using AQ Flex 14/4 and AQ Type 4 (see link to original post on Agon "cables" forum for info on the HT/music system in question.) I really like the 14/4 cables too and have used them in several o...
Recommendations for CL rated speaker cable Well, this is helpful actually. My house is new and I had to have the low voltage wires inspected as well as the AC lines before closing the walls. I think it has to do with fumes or flammability in a fire rather than electrical fire hazard of low... |
