Biamping with a tube and SS combo
Depending on where the crossover point is, there can still be quite a bit of midrange info coming through woofer, which I prefer to hear thru tubes.  I'm doing vertical bi-amping with two tube amps, but am using tubes that are adept at tighter dee...
Tube Amp soundstage
Excellent question!  I've made the same observations with many tube amps vs SS over the years, both in my system and in others, and is one of the major reasons I prefer tubes. The soundstage is almost always taller, wider, deeper, and more saturat...
It's the stylus...
Stylus compliance. Interesting. Never even knew there was any. Coulda sworn the stylus was incredibly rigidly attached to the cantilever. Learn something new every day,. You are correct, of course, and I was wrong.....I misspoke, which I’m sure yo...

It's the stylus...
If the speed is stable, the motor is quiet, the platter bearing spins smoothly, the plinth resists vibration, and the tonearm is sensitive enough to pass along the information gleaned from the grooves, yep...the stylus has a lot of influence on th...
Entry Level Tube Preamp or Higher Quality Used Model?
Used or new....better is better.  Used just tends to get you more better for the money. ;-)
Pioneers in the history of higher end/accurate sounding components....and you..
Ken Stevens from Convergent Audio Technology (CAT) has been making some of the best sounding preamps and amps in the world (tube or SS) for more than 30 years, and deserves mention. It’s hard to have a conversation about world class amps and pream...
Using 200w amp with 300w rms speaker
Buy what you like the sound of.  You have excellent amps capable of driving a speaker well. At the level of equipment you have, unless you're doing some really silly things with the system, I wouldn’t even give those specs a thought.

Anyone think Richard Vandersteen's name is worthy of mention?

Okay, How Important Is Speaker Break In? (Dynaudio Contour 60i)
Speaker break in/burn in can be fairly significant.  The suspensions need to flex to loosen up, and good caps can take many hours to burn in.  The first several hours tend to make the most dramatic difference.  I used to place new speakers face do...
Sorry, it’s not me, it’s you?
I've owned lots of equipment over the years that I either didn't like as much as I thought I would and returned, and some that I liked for a while but fell out of love with once I got more familiar with them.  Receivers/amps, speakers, a couple of...

What's your definition of an audiophile?
Wow...you guys are tough!  And I just thought an audiophile is someone with a passion for recreating music in their home via electronics.
All New Magico A5 Loudspeakers // Biggest "BANG" For Your BUCK On The Market ?!
Don’t know how the A5’s sound in comparison, but I got to hear the Magico S5 MkII recently.   They were driven by Convergent amp and preamp, and the sound was incredible. Best system I’ve heard by a wide margin.
