Why has amplifier power become a big issue
Power specification is very vague.  Average music power is only a few percent of the peak power.  Headroom of the amplifier is very important but most of the time not even specified.  I also enjoy  my class D amp, especially at lower volume.  It d...
What are you using for ripping CDs? What media player do you use?
I use XLD on the Mac.  I still use Itunes for playback.  It is not bad when you use networking (async USB, WiFi, Ethernet).  I created playlists for each genre ("When Genre contains Jazz" - for instance).  It makes it much easier to use - all icon...
DACs that upsample to DSD internally?
Eric, he was asking for the DAC that converts PCM to DSD. Every Delta-Sigma D/A converter does that, unless he is looking for the DAC that brings DSD stream to the output connector.Delta- Sigma might be oversampling but it is not Asynchronous Samp...
DACs that upsample to DSD internally?
xrayz, I'm still confused.  Do you need your DAC to output DSD stream to the outside (DSD stream on output connector) or you're looking for the DAC that outputs analog voltage that comes from PCM-DSD conversion.  As I mentioned before all Delta-Si...
Direct Digital Amplification
It is a little strange that M32 converts analog input signals to digital to convert again from digital to analog at the speaker terminals, while in plain class D amplifiers signal never leaves analog domain.
Shorten my speaker cables?
I have Satoris (shotgun) for a while and they are wonderful.  In comparison to my previous AQ Indigo they have fuller lower midrange (male voices, cello), being faster with silky smooth trebles.  Much better overall.  I considered Oval 9's an read...
Redbook Keeps Surprising
oregonpapa, backups are for that. I have two backups - second one just in case of something bad happening while copying. This second backup resides at my workplace (fire, theft etc). It doesn’t make any difference to me whether I have original CD ...
Looking for upgrade from Apple TV, would like to keep using iTunes and wifi
I would like to add to comparison between PLL and reclocker that reclocker does not replace PLL but works in addition. Any timing imperfections left by reclocker will be further repaired by PLL.Any upsampling DAC will reclock the data using a PLL ...
Looking for upgrade from Apple TV, would like to keep using iTunes and wifi
Pmiguy, PLL reduces jitter but not up to the levels of async rate converter. My Benchamark DAC1 rate converter AD1896 does very fancy operation to achieve fantastic results. From the datasheet:(full datasheet: http://www.analog.com/media/en/techni...
Looking for upgrade from Apple TV, would like to keep using iTunes and wifi
Erik, you're probably right.  I assumed that interpolation with integer ratio, commonly done in oversampling, will be more accurate. Perhaps Apple TVs are just poorly designed, since many people have complained about their performance with 44.1kHz...
Looking for upgrade from Apple TV, would like to keep using iTunes and wifi
It does not have to be dedicated when using network (USB, WiFi, Ethernet etc) since computer timing is irrelevant.  I use computer for other tasks while playing music over WiFi.While 48kHz to 96kHz conversion is easy (PLL - even ratio) 44.1kHz has...
Single ended vs xlr balanced
XLR might be better where ambient electrical noise is high, but requires additional circuitry that may reduce transparency.  Terms "Fully balanced" and "Truly balanced" mean something different.  True balancing is achieved by means of the input tr...
DACs that upsample to DSD internally?
All Delta-Sigma DACs convert PCM to DSD.  SACD is a product of Delta Sigma modulation (recorded output of Delta Sigma DAC before filtering)
Toslink cables...do they make a difference?
Ahendler, that's true but you can discuss matching between speakers and amplifiers, pre and power amp or compare sound of CDPs or DACs.  In case of S/Pdif cable it depends on so many factors that comparison is next to impossible.- Characteristic i...
Toslink cables...do they make a difference?
Coax might be better in somebody’s system but another person might have the opposite experience. Toslink might be better when you have long connections, ambient electrical noise or ground loops. Coax might be better when you have system noise. Typ...
