Warm-up time for amps and preamps
rvpiano, I second you on the Scotch - very effective.
Warm-up time for amps and preamps
I’m running a Class D Taranis by Merrill Audio. Got a bit concerned by rvpiano’s tech’s comment about "on with no input signal" being bad for Class D.  There is absolutely no reason why running without input signal would be bad for any class D ...

Maybe we will start seeing Class D preamps then... Perhaps.  Delta-Sigma D/A, A/D converters, SACD and DSD are already class D.

Speaker cables would be a very poor antenna.  Since wavelength of 500kHz switching frequency is 600m a typical 2m cables would be 1/300 wavelength antenna.  Usually antenna becomes rapidly ineffective below 1/10 of the wavelength.
How do you know if your amp is putting out @ Rated Wattage ?
According to my calculations it is about 11xPerceived loudness increase = k^(1/3.5)  , where is ratio of power.11^(1/3.5) = 1.984http://www.aes-media.org/sections/pnw/pnwrecaps/2006/jj_loudness/Some studies mention k^0.3     (10^0.3=1.995)

2x power makes only 22% louder.

Well, most of people on this forum (including you) think that SMPS is noisy and linear power supply is better.  This believe comes from bad rap of noisy crude computer SMPS applications.  They don't even realize that "Linear" power supply is a pri...

The main reason manufacturers of high end audio (like Rowland) use SMPS is low noise and line/load regulation.  You can find it in FAQs on his (or Benchmark) website. He uses SMPS  in preamps where size or efficiency play no role.Yes, top manufact...

This is a huge step in the right direction getting rid of another point of noise (the smp), with the added lift of future higher switching frequency/filters and the benefits it brings, would spell the end of all linear amps. And Srajan's tubes b...
Analog output for hifi
tls49, Thanks - that is very important info. I've spent 2 hours in the store and could not find it.  It ended all good (I love my Samsung), but Panasonics are nice.

Nobody can hear 500khz, it the filter that has to deal with it and what’s left over and the byproducts of it that is the problem. What is left over is 500kHz. Byproducts are possible (modulation), assuming nonlinearity of motion, if tweeter can mov...

Speakers shift phase much more (in opposite direction) at higher frequencies.  Imaging should be OK as long as phase in both channels match (no reason not to).  As for the switching noise - I cannot hear 500kHz, but I'm pretty sure some people her...

tls49, My daughter's Panasonic does not have menu selection.  None of Panasonics in ABT Electronics store had it.  Same for LG.  We checked manuals with specialist in the back of the store.  This problem with Panasonics was mentioned in many threa...

Plain DAC might not work since many TVs, includingPanasonics, output Dolby.  By default they output Dolby with ATSC and PCM with NTSC.  They don't have menu selection.  For that reason I got Samsung.  Check, if your TV has Dolby/PCM menu selection.
Interconnects, some have directional indicators, why?
Jim, electromagnetic field would be contained in conduit or even braid.  Very often explanation of Poynting Field brings example of coaxial cable, showing that whole energy flows thru dielectric between the wire and the shield.  As for Boulder 306...
