Can SMPS based preamps/amps sound organic ?
Jeff Rowland uses SMPS for low noise. That’s why he uses them in applications where efficiency is non-issue, like Capri preamp. SMPS got bad rap from crude computer applications but when is done right is extremely quiet. Most of linear power suppl...

+1 Sherod, I missed it.  Mine is Absolute.
Whats a good all around digital cable for under $250. I only need half a meter.
Get >1.5m or <1ft  (I can explain why).   It applies only to coax.  It is a system thing - a cable that sounds great in one system might sound bad in another (characteristic impedance mismatch and/or electrical noise induced jitter).  Cable ...
Audio Show - Best Sound comments
So, I think, you definitely get what you hear... but the price tag will influence you more... and most think, getting a good price for something will increase its - non-existing - "qualities" When you audition the gear you try to find shortcomi...
End of the line products.
Hyperion Sound HPS-938 speakers.  There are a lot of better speakers, I'm sure, but Hyperions midrange is to die for.  They are also warm sounding with perfectly integrated tweeter.  Unfortunately company went out of business for the lack of marke...
Subwoofer
Wolf_garcia, I agree, there is not much activity at 30Hz.   Another story is frequency response in the room.  My room amplifies about 30-35Hz extending response a bit, but extension is less important to me, than quality of the bass.  My speakers...
More resistance is less load??
With common 60V transistors (like 2N3055) highest supply would be +/-30V making maximum RMS power with 16ohm speaker only 28W.
More resistance is less load??
A long time ago amplifiers had a great deal of trouble dealing with low impedances and high power. I’m not sure why. Output transformer can be designed for any load. Perhaps higher impedance speakers had less distortion? Perhaps it was difficult ...
More resistance is less load??
AFAIK long time ago all speakers had higher impedance, mostly 16 ohm but some even 32 ohm.  Linearity would be much better with underhung motors (coil within a gap) instead of commonly used overhang motor design (gap within a coil). Only few manuf...
Fiio x3ii or Fiio x5ii
I use it as stationary asynchronous USB DAC/Headphone amp.
Fiio x3ii or Fiio x5ii
Perhaps Oppo HA-2 for about the same money might be to your liking? I have it and the sound is outstanding.https://www.oppodigital.com/headphone-amplifier-ha-2/
"High End" Bluetooth Receivers - Snake Oil?
I'm don't know what is available, but I cannot see reason why not.  CD quality requires bit rate only of 1.4Mb/s while Bluetooth can go as high as 25Mb/s.  Transfer itself doesn't matter since timing is attached later (data transfer in packets).  ...
Long XLR Interconnect Cables
I had substantial improvement replacing short 0.5m XLR AQ King Cobra with AZ Absolute (silver).  I suspect, that improvement would be greater for longer cables.  Both cables were natural sounding, but Absolute was cleaner (more refined) and faster.
... how important is Damping factor in determining what amp to buy
Al, I agree, but when people refer to DF (including this discussion), they mention control of the woofer.  The effects of complex load should diminish when source impedance is 10 times smaller than the load.  DF=20 should be a good choice.   At th...
... how important is Damping factor in determining what amp to buy
Vibration of the speaker membrane, without signal, causes back EMF producing current that flows in opposite direction working against membrane motion, hence damping vibration. This current (damping effect) depends on the total resistance in the ci...
