Redbook Keeps Surprising
I’m still not clear on the copyright. If CD-R (or Music CD-R) is intended for personal backup only then there is no need for any royalties, since I paid them once buying CD. If small royalties are paid per CDR than copying friend’s CD should be co...
Your recommendations for cost-effective and musical sounding headphones?
I have Yamaha HPH-200WH that for some strange reason cost only $59.99 white at Amazon.  Black version is $95 (still a bargain).  It has strong tight bass, clear highs and good imaging.  I also have AKG K271 MKII and used to gave HD-580 (same drive...
Redbook Keeps Surprising
Cleeds, you’re probably right. I know it was proposed in Congress to charge per foot of analog tape in 1985 but looks like it wasn’t approved. Levy on tapes was implemented in other countries like France or Australia.
Redbook Keeps Surprising
It is legal to copy any music to a tape since tape manufacturers pay royalties per foot of the tape.  Same is the case when you copy to "Music CDR", that is slightly more expansive (because of royalties) than plain CDR.As for copy vs original soun...
Strange Oscillation
Falconquest, I just checked - it is clean. I used high volume on headphones and speakers.  There is a lot of sibilants, more vivid with headphones, but still clean.  5:19 high voice note is very clean.  You could clean laser with laser cleaning CD...
Strange Oscillation
I have Cafe Blue, standard CD and cannot hear any high pitch vocal.  In fact, it is the one of the best recorded CDs used for demo in many stores. Can you point to particular song, minutes, seconds?Vibrapods might protect CDP from vibrating shelve...

What is Eutectic Copper?  AFAIK term "Eutectic" applies only to alloys..
Audirvana 2.x Upgrade Benefits
AFAIK  VLINK192 is asynchronous USB to S/PDIF converter.  Since S/PDIF clock is completely separated from the computer timing, then the only way that playback program can affect the sound is by processing (upsampling etc.), unless there was some s...

Voltmeter for Vandersteen 5a setup
They most likely want to apply low frequency 1V sinewave signal (100Hz -1kHz) and measure/set -3dB point. Any voltmeter will do (no need for true RMS).  One recommended by Czarivey is pretty good one.  I have cheaper, non-RMS version for more almo...
Can SMPS based preamps/amps sound organic ?
Patent does not mean much (I have couple of them).  Patenting new principle of operation is practically impossible, so the most of people patent specific use.  You can come up with any weird stuff and register it.  Patent office does not check val...
Can SMPS based preamps/amps sound organic ?
Bombaywalla, I'm familiar with class G principle of operation.  And you're right - their "invention" is pretty much class G. It does not matter if you switch signal or supplies - it is still switching operation.  Rowland (IMHO) is the leader again...
ASSEMBLED IN CHINA
chrshanl37I'm glad you mentioned McDonalds. The wage they pay puts people below poverty level and I pay their supplemental income (gov. support) instead of McDonalds. You are right about some audio stores going bankrupt initially, but later buying ...
Can SMPS based preamps/amps sound organic ?
Bombaywalla, Thank you for the link, very interesting.  The only problem is that what they describe:The digital control circuitry constantly monitors the pulsating waves from the regulator and the rail voltages. It will then make a decision to tu...
Can SMPS based preamps/amps sound organic ?
Jaybe, I repeat again - most of linear power supplies in power amps are unregulated.  I would bet that 100% of linear power supplies in class A  amps are unregulated.  Can you provide the link?  Sonore, you mentioned are 14W, unless I'm looking at...
