Axle - Shielding is a very difficult thing. I assume you're talking about shielding speaker cables from external EMI radiation. I'm not sure that you need to shield speaker cables but in general shielding works a little different than we think. Sh...
HDCD VS SACD
Blindjim - HDCD is not encoded in 20 bit words. The word length is 16-bit. The claim is that it is "equivalent" to 20 bit performance.Part of better sound quality of HDCD is the fact that only (or mostly) very well recorded CDs (or remastered) are...
HDCD VS SACD
"It is a playback only decode system, which means that it's benefits are applied during the playback of standard Redbook CD's and is only compatible with that format."This is wrong. It has to be recorded HDCD to be played HDCD so it is NOT "a play...
To terminate.. or not
Rja - Why? They are the best invention since sliced bread. My cable is very thick and heavy but it cannot get unscrewed. Traditional post can get loose with rotation of the wire but Cardas Clamp cannot - it is very strong and secure. I also love b...
Can Mac/PC compete with High End CDT??
Mapman - I agree, errors are very likely. Even with two identical transports one might have film or dirt on the lens while error correction is very loose (has to operate in real time). Also not every transport is "bit transparent" invoking DSP pro...

using 75 ohm cables digital intr for analog?
They won't damage anything but might be bad for analog for few reasons:- shield grounded on both ends might introduce ground loops- noise induced in shield used as a return appears as a signal- dielectric material is not the best - low grade copp...
Are all Coax digital transports the same?
Dne - That's the Toslink I'm using. I bought glass one just in case (Benchmark doesn't care) and found it to be very high quality product for a fraction of a cost of others.
Help with speaker choice
Check Hyperion HPS-938 reviews. It had a lot of "Editor's Choice" awards (about 10) and even "Component of the Decade" from Enjoy the Music. It is very resolving and dynamic but at the same time laid back and relaxed. I cannot find CDs that sounds...
Are all Coax digital transports the same?
Jitter is basically a noise. This noise is present only when signal is present so it shows just as loss of clarity. DVD players have good tracking and not necessarily bad jitter (cheap because of mass production). They often have very bad analog o...
Dynamic Headroom
"A class A amplifier has by definition 0 db of headroom."I'm not so sure of that. Class A is often designed with bias current in order of 150% o max output current to guarantee that transistors won't become nonlinear - hence some headroom might be...

"Can someone please tell me one good reason why to use spades?"Many amps don't allow bananas. I used to have Cambridge A3i amp that allows only spades (no hole in the post). Now I have Rowland model 102 that has Cardas clamp style (with one big kn...

Dynamic Headroom
Edartford - It is class D amp with full H-bridged Mosfets. There is practically no voltage drop on them (possibly a volt total). As for amps being design for "huge peak-to-average" - that's true but this average might vary. Some amps will handle J...

Cyclonicman - Thank you for you valuable summary.
