1080i vs 720p
"no flat panel TV today actually displays a 1080i signal. They all buffer 1080i and display 1080p."True, but if they would then 720p should be better in spite of lower resolution, since eye is extremely sensitive to horizontal misalignment.
Can Mac/PC compete with High End CDT??
Thuchan - I cannot understand how Mini Disks could be superior with it's smaller media and compressed format. "One company claims they will stop producing CD-players - it is a kind of marketing campaign, isn`t it?"Marketing campaign of what? Linn ...

External hard drives and sound quality
Richard_stacy - I completely forgot about laptops. It's good to hear that it can be done successfully - I might need it one day (wife uses laptop).Blindjim - the most important that you can manage it over long time. Some things are better in Windo...
External hard drives and sound quality
Blindjim - Your internal drive could be maxed out, or heavily fragmented. There is so many other possibilities - for instance Itunes could be updated or options changed exactly at the time of switch to new drive.Fat32 is garbage. Using non-journal...
Can Mac/PC compete with High End CDT??
Thuchan - I've never heard any claims about Mini-Disk sounding better than redbook CD and nobody here said that "best CD drives may bring down the quality of music in comparison to a hard disc drive".

Cloning Class A Classics Continued..
Cwlondon - Finding good schematics of class A is not a rocket science but running successful business is very hard. Not only good design but controlling cost is the key. In addition not only good manufacturing and quality control is required but a...
Can Mac/PC compete with High End CDT??
Mapman - Very interesting point. Rip I use (MAX) reads CD like data CD - multiple times if necessary to get correct checksum while CD player cannot do this since it is operating in real time. For that reason CD player has very loose error correcti...
CD-R Recs
Same here - I use Sharpie on different non- inkjet printable CD-Rs for a long time and have no problems.
CD-R Recs
Taiyo Yuden is the best (they invented CD-R). You can get it cheap here: http://www.supermediastore.com/ (free shipping)They did not change name to JVC - they sell under JVC name in Europe since they acquired 65% of JVC recording business. They we...
I want a warmer high end
My Paradigms Studio/60 v.2 were too bright with neutral Rowland 102 (class D) and Benchmark DAC1. I bought Hyperion HPS-938 and now it is heaven. Sound is very dynamic and detailed but somehow laid back and relaxed. All CDs sound musical now. Midr...
HDCD VS SACD
Well, it looks like price went down a lot. The most common price I found for SACD was $18.98 but when I tried to find Keith Jarrett (made a lot of recordings) in SACD the only thing on Amazon was $34: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=sea...
HDCD VS SACD
Blindjim - Yes I remember initial slew of CDs. Bright unpleasant sound was, according to rumors, cause by frequency correction included for LP pressing. The fact is that a lot of music got digitized with A/D jitter that cannot be removed.I agree w...
