x-tronic 4000 soldering station
Rodman99999, Next time I'll try 550. Teflon can be really bad if overheated, especially large surface like frying pan. If I remember correctly it releases Fosgen - a gas that was used as chemical weapon.

Rodman99999, Can you post link to recommendation from WBT - I could not find any. If they recommend particular tip temperature than I cannot argue with that, otherwise with the same melting point and most likely similar rosin I would follow advice...
using a sub with full range versus or monitors ?
Quality of the bass is also important. My new speakers don't go as low as previous ones, but have more even and natural sounding bass. It is likely that larger drivers interact less with room. Port might be tuned for the lowest distortion and not ...
x-tronic 4000 soldering station
Rodman99999, Yes I used this solder at exactly 700degF and it is no different than standard 63/37 eutectic solder commonly used (melting temp. 183degC). You can follow any advise you want but common in whole electronics industry is 650-750degF. Ke...
x-tronic 4000 soldering station
Rodman99999, You should not solder at 180degC. Proper temperature is 370degC otherwise fluxes evaporate and new oxidation will appear (takes too long). Higher temperature is not only to melt solder quickly but to heat up soldered leads, PCB etc. -...
Why does better power = better sound?
Bifwynne, new Elite 20PFi is $1019 at Audio Advisor. I bought used for $600. New Elite 15PFi is about $699, used currently listed at Audiogon for $350.Al, you know your Beethoven - I'm impressed.
Why does better power = better sound?
Bifwynne - I use Furman Elite 20PFi, a power correcting 20A conditioner with non-sacrificial over/under voltage protection. I don't see any difference in dynamics possibly because in addition to large inductor in series with power outputs it also ...
Why does better power = better sound?
3 and 4 is same as 1 and 2 - greater dynamic range requires good current delivery and low noise. Instruments won't have natural timbre thru noisy gear that compresses dynamics. 5 - Imaging is related to noise as well but also to crosstalk, often t...
Balanced and Unbalanced outputs simultaneously
Dougwhitesell, This is excerpt from Steven Stone Benchmark DAC1 October 2007 review in "Enjoy the Music"."Since it has both XLR balanced and RCA single-ended outputs, the DAC1 can be hooked up to a stereo amp through the XLR connections and to a s...
Amp design logic
Stanwal, my friend was planning to do the same with amplifier he designed. Unfortunately this amplifier had tendency to oscillate in certain setups. I told him that it would be financial suicide if his amp will start damaging customers' speakers. ...
Focus on 24/192 Misguided?.....
Bifwynne, LOL
Balanced and Unbalanced outputs simultaneously
Dougwhitesell, I have Benchmark DAC1 and don't know of any switches. From what I can see signal splits after D/A chip and goes to separate op-amps for XLR and RCA outputs. RCA outputs can be calibrated with multiturn trimpots while XLR outputs are...
Amp design logic
Al, you're right of course, but you have to admit that my animal joke fits to expensive cable trade.

When I see people buying and selling $50k gear it reminds me this guy who successfully sold dog for $50k by trading it for two cats $25k each.
Squeezebox touch-itunes or not?
Jamo1, I use Airport Express but idea is the same - data wirelessly transfered in packets between transmitter (computer) and receiver (AE, Squeezebox etc). What does it mean? It means that data is transferred instead of music. It is important diff...
