Legacy 20/20 and Tubes
Sean, Wow! Those are some scathing comments on the Legacys. Considering how well-reviewed they are, I wonder, have you actually heard the speakers? I know there are many fans of the 20/20 on this site. I wonder what the real story is on these spea...
What causes microphonics ?
Call Rogue. They will tell you there is no inherent design reason for microphonics in this piece. All the tubes that I presently have in my Rogue 99 are not microphonic, and I have no problems with them. It is a matter of obtaining tubes from a so...
Any input on B&W 800 series speakers repairs
Being a B&W owner, I wanted a clear answer to all of this. I called the head tech, Todd, at B&W for US at 800-370-3740. I asked him how long the drivers would be available for the 801 & 802 Matrix series (the Matrix III's were produced...
B&W 801 2or 3
I also own 802 III's, but I don't understand your criticism of the Nautilus series. They seem very well built. Although I have never heard the comparison, a couple of acquaintances have told me they chose the 802 over the 801, because they felt th...
Pass X Pre - Ruthlessly revealling?
The inside scoop is that some dealers dropped Pass because Pass didn't continue to allow them to have exclusive distribution as they once enjoyed. Other examples of this are Audio Research, B&W, Levinson -- you can't buy their product from an ...
Any input on B&W 800 series speakers repairs
B&W's web site says they can supply drivers for 10 years from production. I think the 801 & 802 series 3 was in production until 1998, so that gives you at least 4 more years.
Review: Rogue Audio 99 Magnum Tube preamp
Keep in mind that the tubes chosen will make a significant difference. RCA's for warmer, Sylvania's for higher detail. I wouldn't recommend the EH tubes for the Bryston.
Which SS amp does sound the most warm of all?
I don't think "dark" and "warm" are necessarily the same thing. I like some warm sounding components, but have really hated some dark sounding ones.IMHO,Warm = full, rich, bigDark = syrupy, less aliveness, recessed, distant
Question for Rowland aficionados
This brings up the great debate: Does one piece of electronics produce more of the musical reality? Or, is this just an enrichment of fatter-sounding harmonics, or some type of additive, that lead our ears to hear it was more real?A tough question...
Buying and Selling of feedback
Viridian, making such a personal & vitriolic attack upon me is uncalled for. You don't know the details; who are you to judge? You apparently have no concept that there are people out there, even on this site, who are difficult to expose becau...
Buying and Selling of feedback
A'gon members have more than once expressed their decision to not leave negative feedback on unscrupulous individuals who deserve it, because they have been threatened with false, retaliatory feedback, or they fear that will be the result. I mysel...
Which amplifier to drive B&W Nautilus 802?
Tubes give a very nice sound to B&W's. However, you cannot drive them well without high wattage amps. You can use as little as 100 w. per channel, i.e. Audio Research VT100, etc. You will, however, not obtain the ultimate in sheer muscle unles...
Marantz SA-14: Original vs. Version 2?
It's not available until end of Dec. I was told it would be the same price, and only in champagne.
Tube Pre C2200 , Rogue M99
You can't make a judgment on a preamp's sonics based on listening to each in two totally different systems. I don't know which is better; however, I did speak to someone who owned both, and preferred the Rogue in the end for being more musical &am...
The Audio Research Database
I second a sincere thanks to the person who exerted the effort to create this wonderful tribute site. (Is it Manfredpersson?). There is nowhere, including Audio Research's own site, where you can get this information, and the pics of the cosmetics...
