Any Audiophile recording of The Planets?
I must chime in, because I find Boult's Planets highly overrated. It has a stiffness and stodginess to it. A very pedestrian and boring reading. Plus I don't find the sound competitive with quality, digital era recordings. Rather upfront, grainy &...
Do Kimber KCAG's sound bright????
Raquel's Kimber Select uses a different silver (Black Pearl) than the KCAG, and is a totally different geometry and design. The KCAG has been called bright for all the years it is has been in production. It probably works in systems where the speak...
solid state gear- leave on?
I personally spoke to Pass Labs about this issue. If anyone should know, they should, especially being under the tutelage of Nelson Pass. The answer? Basically a toss-up, as heat ages things, especially capacitors. I think those who believe 24/7 i...
Where has the respect gone?
Yes, there are many nice people on Audiogon, but there are others that are rude, condescending, insulting, and just downright nasty. They seem to thrive on degrading those who ask questions they think are stupid, or those they have taken a dislike...
Blind Power Cord Test & results
I never believed in sonic differences of power cords, and I laughed at those who did. Then, when I finally broke down and decided to try a high-end cord, I couldn't believe the improvement. Even a skeptic friend of mine was immediately converted a...
Audiogon and the Hi-Fi Mags
Some further thoughts... While I could bitch about the quality & honesty of some reviewers in the magazines, and whether untoward handwashing is going on, the mags do provide useful information about what is happening in the world of audio, i....
Audiogon and the Hi-Fi Mags
I think it is pretty amazing that Stereophile collaborated with Audiogon to link Agon's ads to their site. I can't say I understand why Stereophile did it - you would think they would get tremendous backlash from their advertisers, manufacturers a...
A question for JC-1 owners...
Yes, you absolutely must have aftermarket cords. There is a huge difference from stock cords. You will hear more weight and bass, a larger, more defined soundstage, and all instrumental timbres will be affected. On stock cords, you will have a str...
Parasound JC-1 Questions
There is the answer to why there is a divergence of opinion on how hot the amps run. Parasound told me that within the parameter of the design, there is a range of bias that is acceptable, I believe within 10 degrees F. One of mine ran 9 degrees h...
Sonic Frontiers Line 3
If you use compressed air and leave the tubes in, be very careful not to spray the air on the tubes, or they may crack.
Amps to use with Von Schweikert VR4jr's
I'm interested in what the Pass 250.5 sounds like as well, compared to JC-1s.
PC Burn-In: IEC Adaptor from Radio Shack?
Thanks, guys. It's stupid that all these companies will not ship USPS regular mail, only UPS or Fedex, and you have to pay $6 to ship a $3 item that weighs 1/2 ounce.
PC Burn-In: IEC Adaptor from Radio Shack?
The Startech cord you suggested is not the correct thing. It has the male IEC end, but it has a female AC end, not a male end. Startech does not have the correct adaptor.
Amps to use with Von Schweikert VR4jr's
Another vote for JC-1 Halos. I tried them with VRjr, and then left tubes. I agree that the VRjr needs more power and control than most tube amp will allow, and the bass will not be satisfying. The Halos exhibit outstanding control, sheer overall po...
PC Burn-In: IEC Adaptor from Radio Shack?
Thanks, but I don't want to pay VH $30 per adaptor for something that should be a few bucks.
