Aria owners? Mike Elliot's new company Yes, accuracy is a relative term. Nothing is really accurate. My presumption is that if a piece of gear reveals more of what is going on in the music, it is more accurate. However, the piece may be more accurate in some ways, but less accurate in ...
Aria owners? Mike Elliot's new company B&W's don't kill the music. Their accuracy and transparency is obviously something you don't like. In my experience, B&W's act as a window for the sound of your components.
Krell --- Are the Newer designs better? Some of you commented that the KSA250 is softer on the highs, or less dynamic on the highs. I don't know if I equate this with a 'tube sound'. I actually find my tube amp more lively sounding, and less 'dead' sounding than many SS amps. The SS amp...
Krell --- Are the Newer designs better? Sogood51, I'm not totally convinced that SS can't do what tubes do, but I only say that after listening to the Boulder. The Boulder fleshed out instruments, separated musical strands with no congestion, & had no grain or texture whatsoever -- ...
Review: Pass Labs X-350 Amplifier I did extensive listening to the X350. It was a well burned in unit from a dealer. As good as it is, there is still a brightness and shrillness that rears its head when you play less than perfectly recorded material at it. None of the tube amps I ...
tube/resistor failure Different designs. ARC doesn't have individual fuses on each tube, like some tube amps have, as they think it affects sonics. Also, it could be partially circuit topology, which can affect how the unit reacts to a voltage or current surge.
ARC VT-100MKII to MKIII, upgrade worth the cost? I briefly had EH KT-88's in my VT-100 Mk II. I didn't find them nearly as good as the Svetlana KT-88s. However, I did not play these tubes more than a few hours. I guess it may be possible that these tubes need burn-in to know their true sonics. W...
ARC VT-100MKII to MKIII, upgrade worth the cost? Gvatchna, I'm glad I read your response. I was going to try the JJ Tesla 6922. Did ARC comment on whether the electrical characteristics of the JJ are that different from the Sovetek? Did you actually adjust the input bias controls? I know how to ...
Review: PS Audio HCA-2 Amplifier Bigkidz, what are the qualities of the X-250 that led you to buy it over all the other amps you auditioned?
Review: PS Audio HCA-2 Amplifier There are so many amps out there, so I would not be surprised if there are transistor amps that do not have a "silicon" sound. I can only say that those I have experience with lack the sonic attributes that tubes provide. The PS is not perfect -- ...
Review: PS Audio HCA-2 Amplifier Sean, I don't agree that it is "like any other unit." In particular, as I stated, it really doesn't have some of what I deem to be "solid state sound" characteristics, which is a big plus. More body and less "flatness" than other transistor jobber...
Review: PS Audio HCA-2 Amplifier The DNA-225 was a good sounding amp, but complex orchestral or bank passages sounded slightly compressed. Instruments seemed to get pushed together, lacking the separation of lines they should have had. It was not a bright amplifier at all ( a goo...
How long is too long to wait for shipping? I try my best to accommodate buyers. Howver, if paying by personal check, it does take 10 business days for my (your) bank to be sure it is not a returned item. Often, I look for an 800 number of the bank to call them to verify if the check cleare...
Why the limit on warranty to subsequent purchasor? The main reason? A well-known fact to people inside the industry: By not offering a transferable warranty, you discourage resale, and encourage more people to buy new, thus producing more sales for your dealers and for you. Crank 'em out, move 'em...
Blue Gas in Tubes - Why? Is it Bad? It is not a concern. If anything, it indicates a tube that has less gas in it. The elements may glow orange, but the blue is more of a fluorescent glow in the whole tube in the dark. See audioasylum--the tube guys there know this is true. |
