Where do you stop? Makes me wonder how much is attributable to the silver vs the quality difference between the old and new cables.
Need help! First step into high end audio +1 @soix
Proof of improvements in audio system sound quality.... @digitalviper My first foray into a high end audio store introduced me to GoldenEar speakers and Parasound electronics. It sounded great and introduced me to 3D soundstaging. The second audio store the salesman pushed for a budget, so when I re...
Reel to Reel Machine for 15 ips playback Thanks. I’m a big fan of low maintenance so I’ll save for better units.
Reel to Reel Machine for 15 ips playback @chauncy This is a great thread, thanks for starting it @mikelavigne thanks for sharing, especially the $ range for top units- nice to know target amounts Prior to this thread, evaluating R2R components seemed confusing. There are very few choic...
Analyzing DACs @teedee One might assume that the simplest audio chain is sonically best, but my online empirical research shows a mixed bag - sometimes the sonics sound better with a preamplifier in the chain. Some surmise the preamp may somehow be conditioning...
Tough amp decision McIntosh Have a unique sound and look that some prefer, but it seemingly doesn’t compete well with top rated brand/models. An integrated saves $ on casework and cables, but is less flexible for future upgrades. Generally speaking, tube gear has ...
Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm There seems to be any logical arguments why the ViV shouldn’t sound good. Mostly/all from those who have not tried it or even heard it. On the other hand, there’s a lot of very positive empirical reports from actual users. I’ll likely purchase a ...
Inter Connects - What I know and don't know @69zoso69 Iconoclast Cables has white papers that describe how they designed their cables- gives one a basic background on audio cabling design and cost. This is a good place to understand the complexities of audio cable design and why some a...
Phono Cable and interconnect compatibility...? @larseand The high quality of your components can definitely benefit from better cables. It’s always best to try cables in your own system to find a sound “you” subjectively like. Borrowing from friends, dealers, and manufacturers when availa...
New CDP Higher sonics and easier component upgrades vs consolidation of boxes (casework) and cables is usually a higher priority in high end audio. Because one can easily get better sonics with a DAC+transport, few CD players are in demand and thus only ...
Why didn't I sell my vinyl rig? I’m resigned that I have to spend significantly to bring my digital chain up to the level of my analog.
Interconnect advice needed Maybe the OP would be better served with “silver” cables, generally consider cooler than copper.
What is the current retail cost of your reference system? how decisions are made within the framework of cost and resolution. Seems the OP is asking cost/benefit which is subjectively different for each of us. I originally started listing what I purchased and why, then I realized that everyone goes th...
You know when you are dealing with a BS company.... Frankly, if I don't trust their marketing, then I don't trust the company. Ha! That includes most cable companies, and might as well lump in all the other marketing BS we get bombarded with in the media. |
