Switching to solid state amp?
Out of curiosity, what is your reasoning for switching from tube to SS? Is it heat, cost of tubes or something else.
Looking for a monitor with great midrange
Your Primaluna amp and Aric Audio Unlimited pre (I own one too) are quite midrange heavy to begin with. Depending on the types of music you listen, a midrange heavy speaker could make the overall tone too unbalanced. If it were me, I'd look for so...
Aerial 10T Mk2 - Suitable Amplifier?
You didn't say what was your previous system but the gears that you have lined up with the ARC pre and the Bryston amp, paired with the 10T should impress even jaded audiophiles. Congratulations and glad you didn't skimp out on the power. Let us k...
Best amps for everything EXCEPT bass
Separate systems for movies and music. Keep what you have and just get something like a used top line Marantz multichannel AVR and call it the day.
Another soundstage question
Great article from the Genesis. Thanks for sharing. One thing that really caught my attention was that raising the back of the speakers actually adds to the soundstage height. Completely the opposite of what I thought. I’ll use the techniques desc...
Another soundstage question
"...spend at least half of your listening time adjusting the speakers to the recording..."wolf, while this might be the ultimate solution, it is really not a practical approach for most people. I had an interesting thing happen last week that cha...
Which Monitor Speakers to Consider
The only piece of (obvious) advice I can give is with an investment that size, I would not buy anything before hearing them in my own listening space and with my own partnering gear.
Low output gain amplifier for ZU 101db Efficient speakers
oddiofyl, that's exactly why many people run a separate dedicated line/circuit for their audio gear. Dimmers in particular are the worst offenders.
Vandersteens, PSB or something else?
I actually think with a room that size, and considering home theatre application, you’re better of going with speakers that are more "filling" and have wider dispersion. Ohm speakers should sound great in that room or a brand with di-pole design w...
Has anyone made the jump to $uper High end and were disappointed?
Above a certain level which varies from person to person, the differences become mostly a matter of taste as opposed to the actual sound quality. I know I am far from reaching that point since I can still tell when I hear a system that sounds much...
Low output gain amplifier for ZU 101db Efficient speakers
The Aric Audio full-tube (rectifier, voltage regulator, signal) Unlimited preamp that I just bought has a knob in the back to control the output gain. Its really handy since I switch between amplifiers and speakers and it allows me to keep the vol...
Wilson Sasha 2 Pre owned?
So far I have yet to see a post from gpgr4blu that contributed to the discussion at hand. It seems like you just browse the topics daily to find a post from Audiotroy and start your rant. Nothing personal and not defending anyone, just an observat...
Soundstage, layering and tube differences
My theory about soundstage is if the musical recording does indeed include the soundstage  "information", then any component in the audio chain - tubes,  cables, source gear, amp, preamp, etc., etc., as well as room acoustics  and speaker placemen...
Cone impedance question
This may seem too obvious but is it possible to add a resistor in series to increase the overall resistance of the woofer?
I need help, please? Listening to my system through music!
I'm not familiar with your gear but when I upgraded my amplifier's power cord and installed a dedicated 20 amp circuit for the amp, the bass response noticeably improved. Not saying day and night difference but definitely audible.  YMMV.
