Anyone With A Class 'D' Amp Play A 4 or 2 Ohm Speaker?
Ralph, thank you for your excellent explanations, as always. My Martin Logans definitely sound more balanced in the top octaves when driven by my McIntosh MC2200 as compared to my other SS amp that doubles down with halving of the load impedance. ...
RIP Arnie Nudell
A true visionary. Strangely I watched a video of him on a panel along with other speaker designers like Richard Vandersteen, Andrew Jones, etc., at last year's RMAF.RIP
More effecient speakers?
I completely agree with larryi assessment about low efficiency/sensitivity speakers sound best with low powered class A amps played at low to moderate volumes. If matched correctly, nothing even mega bucks high powered amps and giant size speakers...
Power choice
Paging georgehifi....someone is asking about Schiit products...Sorry OP, this is an inside joke..But joke aside, the Vidar/Freya should be a killer combo...
Aric Audio Systems Unlimited Preamp
If you're a little handy with a soldering gun and can pay attention to details, you can do most of the upgrades yourself. I replaced the stock capacitors in my Unlimited with the top line Audyn just recently and I'm very impressed with the results...
Help me please!!!
If I were in that position and cost was not a major concern, I'd just get a pair of Pass Labs XA200.8 and be done. Just make sure you have good air conditioning in the listening room.
Amplification for Wilson Audio Sasha on the cheap
"Sure a tube will work and mostly sound good, but the best will not be extracted from the Sasha's in the bass."What about a pair of ARC 250SEs driving them? Still the same opinion? I think not.
Maybe tube preamp
mark, in case you ultimately decide you want to go with a popular name brand, there's a Conrad Johnson Classic SE for sale now for $1,150. I have not heard this particular model but it gets good reviews and should have that famous CJ midrange glow.
Is my Cal Audio Sigma II too old?
For Redbook CD, you may also want to consider one of the R2R DACs being discussed in a few other threads. The Denafrips Ares is under $700 with free shipping. Meets the no frills no glitz criteria referenced above with lots of positive feedback.
Is my Cal Audio Sigma II too old?
Note note to self: Count the number of posts someone asked for a suggestion for upgrading xxxx (fill in the blank with any audio gear) and georgehifi did not respond by including a link to Schiit website or not recommend one of their products.Sorr...
Can a Quality Full Range Speaker be the Limiting Component in a system?
If the question is referring to full range speakers meaning full range single driver speakers, some of the higher end Lowther drivers claim a 20Hz-20KHz frequency response. So I suppose they technically exist. Same for full range speaker "systems"...
Stand alone tweeter?
I don't think you can just swap the tweeter without having some knowledge of the crossover design. One common and easy way to "tame" a tweeter is by adding a resistor in series with the tweeter to lower its amplitude. Just be aware that nothing sh...
Maybe tube preamp
Just to add to what david_ten said, going down the Aric's path, or any one-man builder shop for that matter, is a very different mind set as compared with the big guys and going off the shelf. He's literally one email away and (obviously) knows hi...
Maybe tube preamp
It looks like the tubepower has a lot more personal experience with Aric’s products but if you’re not picky about esthetics like fancy case or heavy aluminum faceplate, machined knobs, etc., I think you will be happy with Aric Audio preamp. The in...
Maybe tube preamp
markainsworth, I’ll give you my impressions here, hopefully not too boring for others. I was in your same exact position a few months ago except my budget was a couple of hundred dollars less than yours and Aric’s Unlimited caught my eye, prior to...
