Phono Stage Recommendation $3000
Sorry if this may seem off topic but I’m also looking for a phono stage but at a lower price bracket. That said, I’m wondering why no one asked about the downstream gear, e.g., what line stage preamplifier or amplifier, etc. Why is that?
New to Magnepan, a volume question
Don't mean to belabor the point but here's from Stereophile:'Description: Output Power: 200W into 8 ohms (23dBW); 325W into 4 ohms (22.1dBW), all continuous power, 20Hz-20kHz, with 0.09% THD. Input impedance: 22k ohms. Sensitivity: 130mV'The Sensi...
New to Magnepan, a volume question
george, may be you’re talking about something different but all things being equal, an amplifier with a 0.130 volt input sensitivity- not gain, will play much louder than an amplifier with a 1.5 volt input sensitivity. A line level input of 2 volt...
Power Cords for Parasound
By the way, regarding the reference to 60 amps, that has nothing to do with the power cord or the amp rating of the circuit. That's probably a spec that they use for peak to peak fluctuation within the circuit and give the impression of "high curr...

Which watts are the right watts in SS amps?
'..on paper, a 91db sensitive speaker should develop 91db SPL at one meter (about 40 inches) with one full watt without room reinforcement.'True if speakers are 8 ohm but for 4 ohm speakers the number is more like 88 dB (91-3).
Amps or Speakers which one to upgrade next
".....if tube rolling changes the sound of your gear, then your gear is garbage."A bold statement with absolutely no basis. If this were true, every 'good designer' would use the cheapest discrete components they could find.....Looks like I'm also...
Power Cords for Parasound
+2 SignalCable, well made and reasonably priced. Just keep in mind you need room behind the amp since the cable has large bending radius.
The Levinson Sound?
blindjim, the sound experience you describe, if it was with an older ML amp, is most likely because that amp was due for an overhaul. I have no doubt there are “better“ amps out there but that’s not the point of discussion here. I’ve heard countle...
Pure Audio Project Loudspeaker with Voxativ driver option
I heard them at the NY Audio Show with the Voxative AX-C and they sounded wonderful. The Fostex drivers in my speakers at home sounded broken in comparison. Given the $9K cost of the drivers, I thought the $15K asking price was quite reasonable.
Amps or Speakers which one to upgrade next
artemus, just looked up Watkins speakers and they look very impressive on paper. Thanks for sharing.  We are so fortunate to have so many options out there for great speakers at almost any budget.  And keep learning about new ones every day.
The Levinson Sound?
I’ve heard No. 334 and X150.5 in the same system for a few hours when a friend was trying to decide to replace his 334 with the Pass unit. At the end we both agreed we liked the No. 334 better so he decided to keep it. His had gone through a major...
Annoying sounds from cars at stop light
I’ve been inside one of those cars, actually a full size Cadillac SUV that one of my much wealthier than me friends owns. He has a mega dollar audio system at home and spent serious money to upgrade the system in the SUV and I must admit the sound...

Use pink noise disc to warm up stereo
There are also a number of free phone/tablet apps that generate pink noise if you have a Bluetooth capable streaming device. Handy for speaker placement as well.
