I am TORN between Tube power amp and SS power amp.
If the 91dB mentioned above is the sensitivity, then all that speaker needs is 1 watt to produce 91dB sound level at 1 meter. So there's no surprise that a 12 wpc amp can and will sound loud (clear is a subjective term) enough in a moderately smal...

elizabeth, please keep us posted how the Pangea PCs perform as they age. There were a number of reports from the field that in contrast with most other brand cords the Pangea cords tend to get "worse" as they age. I've been using a couple of their...
Integrated amp + dac for Focal
Budget? New and/or used?
I am TORN between Tube power amp and SS power amp.
rodulfo, the SET amp you mentioned raises three red flags; input impedance of 50K ohms, 9.2 wpc power, and the weight of ~25lbs. Normally the weight of a SET 300B is a good indication of the quality of the transformers which are the most critical ...

McIntosh Guy Going Tubes? (Maybe?)
I don't have any experience with the Sabrinas nor with the specific components mentioned in the previous post but my takeaway from hearing difficult speakers driven with low powered SET amps/integrateds is the outcome depends on the musical conten...
preamp inverts polarity
"Is "phase inversion" the same as "polarity inversion"?"Good question.
Bi Wiring for speakers question
jim, there's another thread a few inches below "to bi-wire or not" and there's more how to information in that thread. Its very simple. Good luck and enjoy your new speakers.
Longer speaker cables or interconnects
According to some literature when I researched this topic, the total resistance of the wire should be less than 5% of the nominal impedance of the speakers. Of course, the speaker impedance can dip well below the "nominal" value at certain frequen...

“It would be silly to pack an 18 gauge power cable with a McIntosh, so they get a cable that at least "looks the part" and maintain their credibility”My McIntosh MC2200 (200 wpc into 8, 4, and 2 ohms) has a stock and captive two prong power cord t...
Amplifier ideas with KEF Reference 1
Lots of positive reviews on the Lyngdorf. If it were me, I would first replace the pre/amp and keep the LS50. You might just get enough incremental improvement from your LS50 by adding room correction that you may be satisfied with the results. Ke...
to bi-wire or not?
hifiman5, fair point. It would be true if you leave the jumpers in place as some are suggesting.
to bi-wire or not?
At the minimum, bi-wiring reduces the effective gauge (awg) of the wire over the  length of the speaker cable. Now whether or not that makes a difference in sound quality can only be determined by listening trial.
Comb Filtering - Quick way to Tell
"I don't think so."Everything I've read about speaker design/acoustics seems to agree with Erik. Can you point to anything more scientific instead of just your "opinion"? Everyone has an "opinion" on everything and words are free...
