"The Freya gets criticism simply for being too inexpensive "wolf, I see you mention this often that its inexpensive. $700 is not as inexpensive as you may think given the other options out there. You can get a brand new two chassis tube preamp fro...
Ayre Parasound Pass : where are you?
I just recently heard the Pass XA25 paired with a Herron preamp driving a larger floor standing Omega speakers at a house of a local audio club member. He had them set up in a  room roughly 14X18 with the speakers well into the room along the long...
Vandersteen 1 repair.
I received a similar response when I inquired about the woofer in my model 2. They know their speakers better than folks on the forums.
MAC Autoformers?
Thank you Ralph for keeping it honest and cutting through the misinformation. Certain individuals keep polluting the threads with personal opinions based on complete ignorance. I now simply scroll over their posts.
Marantz SA-10 arriving Monday!
Glad it sounds so great but why such a big surprise when moving up from a ~$700 player to a ~$7,000 one! I expected  - actually demanded, nothing less than excellent sound. Enjoy.
Spotify vs other streaming services
"...have not made the jump (some of the news about Tidal's long term viability still concerns me)."Who cares? Are you planning to invest in the company or just subscribe to their service?Sorry, could not resist.
Does anyone have any experience of hybrid valve and solid state power amps?
"A well-kept secret (it’s not expensive or fashionable enough?),"Perhaps a well-kept secret but at $8,000 it's certainly not considered inexpensive. And there are a ton of other options out there at that price point.
Ayre Parasound Pass : where are you?
Erik, I think there are too many variables to draw any meaningful conclusions relative to the sound quality among these different brands. My anecdotal experience having heard Parasound A23 and an older but comparably powered Ayre amp in the same s...
Speaker spike feet?
"Isolating the speakers with springs, making them less rigid, sounds better"In my experience, that depends on the specific conditions. That approach worked well for me when I had the speakers on a suspending hardwood flooring, e.g., second floor, ...
Speaker spike feet?
Great job on the spikes. Well done.
Are my amp and preamp mismatched?
Its a 40:1 ratio which should be fine.
Onkyo m510 grand integra
"So I then offered an Pass Labs X-350 or a set of Krell mono-blocks. I received the same mute answer"My guess is he had no clue about these brands and their sound quality.
spade lugs won't fit
If the spade ends are built/pressed into the cable, you'll either need to butcher the cable or send it back. I use the adapters listed earlier with banana plug speaker cable ends. Has been working well for several years now.
New to HiFi, need digital advice.
Why go through all this trouble? A Bluesound streaming device like Node2 or Node100 - on sale for $199, will give you access to huge libraries of music right at your fingertips. It will even make your tuner obsolete by allowing you to listen to (i...
Speaker spike feet?
If the speakers are on a carpeted floor over hardwood, you definitely want to use spikes that are long enough to go through the carpet and couple the speakers to the hardwood. If possible, a little space between the base and the carpet is preferre...
