Problem related to Push-Pull or EL34?
In my limited experience, all things being equal, e.g., power rating, cables, speakers, etc., the tube amps with higher output impedance/low damping factor tend to have a more boomy bass response. You can try a different output tap, 4 ohm vs. 8 oh...
Speakers for a very large room?
Sound Lab also makes great speakers for larger rooms but you'd need to look in the used market to find one within your budget. Eminent Technology is another great option for Electrostatic speakers. I think they sound much (much) better than other ...
Speaker Recommendation: 20K range
OP, your experiment of "lesser" speakers sounding as good as "better" speakers underscores my earlier recommendation of addressing the room acoustics before making the investment in getting even "better" speakers. You have lots of reflective surfa...
Speakers for First Watt SIT-1 amp
Both Zu and Spatial make high efficiency high impedance speakers. I have a horn-loaded single driver speaker system as well and have heard a couple of mid-line Zu speakers and in both cases, almost regardless of the pairing amps - tube, SS, low or...
SET v. Pushpull
No budget was mentioned. As one data point, I have heard the LS50 paired with Prima Luna Premium HP amplifier (the 70wpc model) extensively and I thought the sound was excellent albeit a bit bass shy.
Budget SS integrated with great timing and immediacy up to 2k used?
If you can be patient, look for a First Watt push/pull model in the used market. Meets your requirements and some and is a good investment.
Cary 805 questions; with Sonus Faber Amati Homage speakers
"...I wondered whether what is expected by the numbers always manifests itself the way you might expect, in the reproduction of actual music. "Quick answer is no. Measurements are not always an (only) indicator of how the "system" will sound. Mig...
Hardware Streamers
Node2 or 2i do not support a USB output if that's all your DAC handles. The analog output is quite good unless you have a high quality outboard DAC.
Speaker Recommendation: 20K range
As a suggestion, you may also want to consider some room acoustic treatment and see if that helps with some of your current issues. You seem to have a lot of reflective surfaces in your room particularly in areas where you need diffusion and/or ab...
No sound from speakers
At the risk of stating the obvious, if your speakers sounded fine with the turntable connected to the phono input of your (integrated) amp, then it does have a built-in phono preamp.
Speaker Recommendation: 20K range
Being close to NYC, I suggest you take the time and check the local stores and listen to as many speakers as you can. You may also want to focus on what aspect of your listening experience you'd like to improve, e.g., tonality, timber, accuracy, s...
No one actually knows how to lculate what speaker cable they need
I read through most of the posts and get the notion of the thicker the better for resistance but might have missed references to the inductance and the capacitance that these very thick cables add to the mix. Wouldn’t the additional inductance and...
best preamps
“...They are the audiophile "glitz brigade" and are only interested in presenting their shiny equipment up on a pedestals.”It takes one to know one....Another completely useless post from the regular bystander.
Sorry redundant Best DAC under 600.
This may sound controversial but the answer to your question may depend on how you’re planning to use the DAC. Supposedly, if it’s intended to “enhance“ your Redbook CD playback, the Multibit options, even the cheaper Schiit Modi Multibit @ $250 c...
Apple TV Streaming Sound Quality vs Streamer?
I have no experience with the DAC in the Oppo but I’ve found streaming Tidal through Chromecast Audio ($35) had better sound quality as compared to the AppleTV. My comparison was running both through a Schiit Modi Multibit ($250). I used the optic...
