Have you moved away from full range to standmount speakers + subs?
In my relatively small room (13' x 21', listening on the short axis on one side of the room), I am using 2 small standmounts (Harbeth P3Rs) and one small REL T/5 floor firing sub. I find having a seperate sub useful in order to move it around to g...
Does Heavy Metal music benefit from a high end audio system?
...and, oh, yes, the better the stereo the cooler the sound.  That goes for all music, especially Heavy Metal!
Is improvisational jazz to impressionism art as smooth jazz is to realism art?
@onhwy61 Kenny G has sold over 75 million albums. Pat Methany, 20 million.  All music is in the mind of the listener (does a tree that falls in the forest make any sound if no one is around).Play whatever floats your boat. Just don't make me liste...
System building; a meditation
Listening habits. I have my modest system in a room with some comfortable furniture. I can, if I want to, sit between the speakers, and sometimes pull them a bit forward for more of a near-field experience, but usually leave them where they are an...
Biggest "bang for the buck" audio gear you have owned(in your history)?
After a number of years fiddling with audio I settled on an AR turntable with a Shure v-15 type iii, a Dynaco PAS 3x (bypassed tone controls), a kit-built ST-70 with Mullards, and FMI stand mount speakers (using their own heavy gauge wire). That m...
Helping a friend build a new system
Well, looks like like your friend bought the I-85. Great tube amp but moving in the wrong direction. Most of the great sounding stand mounts have low sensitivity, and require a bit more oomph. If he wants to go the big box/paper cone/horn loaded r...
Helping a friend build a new system
Your friends preferences hits all my buttons. My room is a bit bigger but with 8’ ceilings. Similar taste in music. Cozy and intimate rather than big and loud.Over 50 years I’ve had it all (within my budget): Altec Lansing VOT, JBL 100, B&O, F...
Will the placement of casters on speaker stands degrade the performance
I have Harbeths on Sound Anchor stands.  I took out the spikes and replaced them with round headed "carriage" type screws.  Now I can move my spealkers around wthout poking holes in my floor.  No degredation of sound.  Note:  high quality vinyl fl...
Average Price Spent for Speakers
For the average audiophile, 100 hours seems about right unless you have a stash of cash.  Any more than that and you are either single or dealing drugs.
Do I NEVER shut it off…?
I leave my ss stuff on all the time (occasionally unplug if I will be away for a while or threat of severe storms). Improves dynamics and timbre especially on acoustic instruments. Takes my amp about three days to get up to speed. The DACs all beh...
Which amplifier should i buy
Why on earth would anybody drive those speakers with a tube amp?  Tubes are fun with high efficiency speakers with modest current demands (pretty much the opposite of the Magicos). Many good ss suggestions above, but with the kind of dough you want...
Substantial Upgrade
I have not heard the Hana ML, but I suspect the $450.00 upgrade will be subtle compared to the SL.  The difference between the EL and the SL is immediately apparent.  The SL is probably the sweet spot in the Hana range.  I would pause on the ML un...
How old are you?
Old enough to remember yanking the tube amp out of my Mom's Sears Silvertone console and hooking it up to some 12" Utah speakers that I built plywood cabinets for.  That year, Santa brought me a Garrard SL55b with a Shure m95e!
Looking for a new integrated amp
All of the amps you are looking at will work fine with your system.  I think I would go with the Rogue.  More importantly I would take a look at upgrading your phono stage.  Just about any competent amplifier will drive those Tektons, but you will...
$1000 bookshelf speakers with "recessed", "laid back" or "flat" mid-range?
Too bad you don't have an extra $1500 or so to spend.  Harbeth makes a line of speakers that are quite easy to live with.
