Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
Sure. The idea here is to use the rheostat to zero in on a figure, and then replace it with a non-inductive fixed resistor. I'm assuming that the series inductance won't make enough of a difference in the frequency response to render the results u...
Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
One thing you can do is get a wirewound rheostat and use it to adjust the tweeter level to your liking, then remove the rheostat, measure the resistance with an ohmeter, and buy high quality fixed resistors to match.
Magnepan "3 series" differences?
Perhaps you could ask that question there? There are bound to be people who have heard all or most of them. Or look at old reviews, they'll typically point out the sonic changes from previous models -- the one I remember is that they moved the myl...
Inexpensive sub for MG12's
Yeah, when buying a Martin Logan sub, go for the sealed rather than the ported ones. That's what everyone says, anyway, I have a sealed one myself so I've never heard the ported ones. Also a big sub isn't necessarily the best choice for mating with...
Martin Logan CLS setup
Nice big room, symmetrical, not a square, open behind the listening chair -- I'd say you're going to need minimal treatment, if any, beyond the usual furnishings -- rug, furniture, bookshelves. Perhaps some diffusion at the first reflection point ...
Magnepan "3 series" differences?
Go to the planar asylum, someone just gave an excellent answer to this question. (Perhaps you're the one who asked it?)
Magnepan MMG for low volume
There's no question that Maggies, including the MMG, come alive at moderate or high levels. Still, I agree with Onemug that there really isn't very much competition for the MMG at that price level. Particularly if you prefer acoustical music as yo...
Tower Speakers and Room Size
At that price, I don't think you're going to find a dynamic that "blows you away." I'd go instead for a moderate sized panel, used, because they have far and away the best bang for the buck. Magnepan 1.6's go for about $1000 used and will blow any...
magnepan experimenting
Those measurements were made on the MMG's, anyway, so despite their similarity to the 1.6's I don't think you'd necessarily get the same tipped-up (then rolled off above 15k) highs. As you imply, you really have to try them every which way, to see ...
Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
I'm not sure when they started shipping the tweeter resistor. I confess I'm one of those who's reluctant to use it, because I don't like the shelf effect on the frequency response. This may not apply to the 1.7, I'm not even sure where it's wired/...
Stereophile Rated the Sqeezebox Touch Class D
I answered before I read the thread, LOLSeriously dumb
Stereophile Rated the Sqeezebox Touch Class D
"Class D" doesn't mean a component is bad, it means it should provide satisfying sound but isn't near the state-of-the-art. The Stereophile review said that the sound from the analog outputs was a couple of notches below state-of-the-art (the TAS ...
Maggie 1.7's?
Bottom octave sub, or wait for the 20.2!
magnepan experimenting
JBen on the Planar Asylum has measured the MMG's both ways and from the back the frequency response is tipped up between 10 and 15 kHz:http://db.audioasylum.com/cgi/m.mpl?forum=mug&n=144728&highlight=MylarFront&r=I'm guessing that's wh...
Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
Kehonka, I read somewhere that Wendell Diller of Magenpan suggested try them both tweeter in and tweeter out. He said that a majority of people prefer them tweeter in, but some like them tweeter out. It may depend on your room. Also, to those who a...
